Applying to Prep School!!!

I know my D recieved a letter from an exeter student. Not to worry though, there's plenty of room for everyone. The number of apps should be lower this year and for the next ? years to come as per independent school studies.

Why would apps lower?

The highest number was for the class of 08. It's a function of how many kiddos are available. Esa your'e in wonderful shape.

Thanks. This is to anyone who ever applied to St. Pauls's School. I just got a personal direct email from the Director of Admissions at St. Paul's saying how much he enjoyed reading my application and one essay in particular. Is this normal or is it something really good/encouraging. I hope this isn't the norm.

It means you got rejected, they just don't want to hurt your feelings after all your hard work.

....

Just kidding. It's a good sign.

Great sign ESA. I disagree with preparent. This isn't college. Only a small percentage of kids apply to prep schools and it doesn't flow with numbers born in a particular year. Quite to the contrary, the popularity of boarding preps is on the upswing for many reasons. There have been bestselling books in a few Asian countries set at elite prep schools in the US that have created tremendous interest in those countries. The difficulty of getting into top private days school's in many areas as the ranks of the upper class have risen has also added to the popularity of boarding preps. The ongoing success of these kids getting into top colleges also adds to the allure. No prep schools will continue to see the numbers rise.

Does anyone know how many kids on average would apply to a Prep School like Andover or on a smaller scale Cushing? Noone seems to want to divulge this info?

Golden -

Thanks. Anyone know of other schools which list actual amount of kids applying?

Middlesex 800 plus app. for 108 seats 25% acceptance

The Exeter post doesn't tell you how many students they accepted, just how many enrolled. Anybody know how many they accepted for each grade/form/class level.

esa, overall they accept about 27% and you know that the majority of those app are from 1st year students, so extrapolate. esa you will probably get into E,S and A. outside of where my D goes which I highly recommend, may I suggest S!

prepparent, why did your D choose middlesex over S?

something clicked with MX for her. One issue as crazy as it sounds was the weather. Now I know that sounds strange but we were warned that the winters were longer in concord nh then concord mass. being from tx that was an issue. But MX seem to be the place right from her 1st visit.

Prepparent, if you have any other children, did they go to prep school? If so which ones and did they enjoy it?

prepparent, is there really a difference in winter from the two concords? and what about deerfield or hotchkiss? what do you think?

Esa, I have one other child who is a prep hopeful. So this is my first exp. as a parent.

Cubfan, The person who gave us the heads up on the weather was my D 8th grade latin teacher who went to prep school and grew up in the area. This came up when they were discussing the pros and cons right down to the color of the grass on jan 5th. However , If middlesex was in NH, today she would be in NH. I know I don't have to say this, but don't make the weather the final issue. lol

Good luck, I'm really excited for all of you on this thread and lookforward to hearing from everyone in March.

Did you go to prep school?

Let's keep this thread going for next year's students and parents. You guys have all been so wonderful at answering lots of my questions.

No offense, but do you really think we can keep this thread alive? Sure it's great, but what does it matter? I suspect we'll stop posting here after we've all enrolled at our schools, which will be in April/May I think. After that, the thread might get some posts about summer school, but not much other than that until say September, when school starts.
