In April/ May the what do you take to prep school will begin. Maybe even, did I make the right choice questions. The bravado of victory will last at least till june, don't you think?

Yea it'll keep going. It will be interesting to see who gets in where.

I'm now at the superstitious stage doubting everything I did on my application. Also reading into things like Exeter emailed me directly to say that they hadn't received the extracurricular recommendation from my music teacher. So i'm thinking I'm not in the no-way pile yet and maybe I'm even being considered that they would email for it? What do you think.

Well, I think that if you have one part of the app missing, they'll email you to ask about it.

They don't start reviewing apps until the whole thing is complete.

Regis, I think you need to follow up on your recs and get them in ASAP. I think it is normal for many people to begin to second guess. I'm sure for all of you, March 10th can't come quick enough. Then you'll have to make some tuff choices. I recommend that you all take advantage of the revisit, (assuming your finances make this possible ) even if your'e sure of your choice. Among other things, this will help reinforce your choce. During the summer you'll have placement exams and a nice little list of required reading.

OOPS, sorry , but I forgot to mention, when you lay your head on your pillow each night , think FAT ENVELOPE. lol

Question, did anyone on this thread apply to Peddie?

Ok. Another question. Does anyone know the 'formula' for sorting through all the applications. One of you mentioned the 'no way pile' which was interesting, because my son just came home from school yesterday after visiting a local college and they explained to him the 'no way pile' system! Do prep schools operate in a similar capacity? Although everyone has told us that the ssats are not the main guideline.

I shudder at that kind of consideration. Once an application is left out, it's rejected. Kind of sad...

what is the no way pile? is it when they wont bother reading it because tey just write you off? ot even a chance, that kinda thing...?

wow that is pretty sad if thats what it is, but they get so many apps it's possible. but you paid the fee and they should at least read it once.

There shouldn't be a 'no way' pile. Your application is looked at as a whole. For example, if they started the cutting pile by SSAT scores, and there was an extremely strong applicant (A's in AP courses, great essays, great recs, etc etc) but got a... say 60 on his SSATs, they would never just glance at his score and bin his app.
March is drawing closer..... anyone really anxious?

Yeah, my beloved thread will one day die! :( Just as the years before the new applicants will start a thread of their own and we'll just advise them.

Golden, imho, the prep school process is very much like the college process, with the exception of the "no way pile". The schools have more interviews then complted apps, so I believe they carefully look at all the applications. The only criteria for this scenario would be the ssat scores ,but the prep schools appear to be more holistic. Therefore, they carefully look at all apps. I know they seperate boarders from day students to assure they have the ratio they strive to attain.

I suspect you are in the "no way" pile if you got kicked out of your last school for drugs, academic dishonesty etc., or if you have really bad teacher recs due to being a pain in the ass (the latter was my son's case his first time around)

momofwildchild, it would seem after the interview they would discourage you from even applying. I glad to hear you s has worked things out.

IMHO, evryone one on this thread is in the "yeah way" pile. Except of course us parents.

Just found this message board. It's interesting to read what everyone is going through and remembering...my S graduated from Exeter last June and now is a freshman at Rice. Exeter was the most amazing experience for both him and us as parents. Many parents of PEA grads have told me that college was a breeze after Exeter and so far, our S is finding this out.

Good luck to all in your prep school quest!

I've got a question. Andover has received all my materials except for my test scores. I sent them, but the problem is I'm a 10th grader applying for 11th grade, and I was supposed to send the SSAT/ISSEE (sp?) but I never took them so I just sent my PSAT scores, which I'm not sure if I was allowed to send. So maybe they're thinking the PSAT scores are just an addition to the SSAT/ISSEE scores, which they haven't received yet?

Thanks. I didn't have time to prepare for the SSAT, so that's why I didn't take it. Plus I'm applying to 2 schools, one of which doesn't need the SSAT so I didn't find it worth my time and $80 to take a test for just one school...

What should I do? A friend of mine was in my situation last year and got waitlisted, though I doubt it was because of him sending his PSAT scores.

I mean, they should accept the PSAT scores I would think. It's not like a 11th grader taking a way easy test like the SSAT, I took a 11th grade level test as a 10th grader so you would think it'd be acceptable...thanks for the help.

Uh.... I think that might be a problem. I'm applying to Andover and Exeter, and I'm in grade 10, applying for grade 11. I know that for Exeter, you can send in EITHER PSAT or SSAT scores (I sent in my PSAT scores to Exeter) But for Andover, I think you MUST send in SSAT scores. Maybe you could call them and work something out, or take the Feb. SSAT if you still can...

Hey...If you two have any questions, feel free to private message me - I'm a new 11th grader at one of these schools.

I think the psat is fine. in fact I thought thats what the prep schools required for entering 11th graders instaed of the ssat. the obvious thing to do is to get an e-mail to the adcom of the school, or better yet give them a call ASAP.
