Yes, I've heard there were 8 Canadians at Exeter; all of which were Uppers or Seniors. In comparison with the Intl' numbers, this is a relatively large number. Since 4 will be leaving, I hope my queue is next!

So basically, there're more interviews than applications? Oh well, it's the application numbers which show. If the acceptance rate stays the same, then we still have the same hope as before!

Hello!! I stumbled onto this site, and I immediately had to join! I live in Northern Cali and would never dream of going out East, so I only applied to Thacher. I have an overall 96% on my SSAT's, excellent teacher recommendations, great essays, and fence for ECs...I just got a Valentines Day card from Thacher, and before I applied there was a letter saying that they'd looked over my SSAT scores and wanted me to apply. At the interview the woman seemed quite pleased with me (it turned out we had a lot in common...o.0), and when she interviewed my parents she tried to "sell us" reasons why they should let me go here. Then she gave my parents a book on Thacher!! I'm really hoping that this is a good sign, because Thacher 'clicked' with me so well, it was the only boarding school I could think of applying to!

Yeah, I think so too!
Just wondering... is it possible to really screw up an interview? Seems like no one has so far. And everyone I've talked to has had 'excellent interviews'.

swordchic, on the surface it would appear you have a very good chance. Did you look at cate? if not, why?

tara, this thread has but a small core of students applying. I assure you, not all interviews go well. if you look at boardingreview.com, the top 20 schools accept from 20% to 38%. i'm sure the interview plays a vital roll. academically, most applicants are probably very close. that leaves the essays, ec's ,and interviews to pare down the list.

Also, I think most kids only worry about nightmares for interviews, the few horror stories they've heard of. I heard about one where an interviewer asked a student to calculate the cube root of 356 to the second decimal place in their head! Compared to that, ANY interview is a dream.

Thanks! It's so great to be talking with the kids (and the parents of kids ;) ) that all have about the same dream as me. I didn't even think of going to a Preparatory School until my mom found out that one of her student's fathers had gone to Thacher. I went on the website and was hooked.

PrepParent: In all honesty, I looked at Cate's website (as I did with Exeter and Andover and Deerfield), but like the rest, it just didn't call to me... I've read through the thread and it seems like most other students want to go to a particular school because it felt right, and Thacher just seemed absolutely perfect to me (plus the location is awesome and the weather's great, lol :D )

I hope we all get in to the schools of our choice! I know I'm counting down the days on my calendar...Think BIG envelope! ^.^

This isnt a bad thing, but I think people get very excited about people trying to 'sell' the school. It really isnt that amazing. Interviewers are trained to say a bunch of really great things about their school, no matter what they think of you. They raved about their schools while I was there too, but I dont think it means real much.

Whats everybody's top choice? I'm hoping for Andover, but I really am torn, becasue the other schools I'm applying to are fabulous as well.

TJ have you visited Andover yet? Right now the weather is kind of erratic but last week for a couple days the sun came out and the snow was all gone and it was absolutely beautiful.

Yea, I visited- when it was about 8 degrees and it was covered with snow. Fortunantly I like the winter. It was very pretty.

PrepP- Only Groton and Exeter, and several day schools in my area. All of the schools are excellent schools, and I could go anywhere from them. Its hard to choose.

groton size is quite different versus andover, and exeter. my d goes to middlesex, did you check Mx out? the last 3 to 5 year placement in the ivy/stanford/mit is in the top 7. she did not choose on that basis, but that seems to be important on this thread.

Yeah, I feel like Groton is smaller and has a more Boston-ey feel than the other two. Groton is also more formal than Andover and Exeter. Have you seen the new novel "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld? She's a Groton alumnus, and the book describes life there pretty well .
