Ok, how long was everybody's essay?

My essays were probably about 700 words. I had to edit huge amounts so I could write them down on that damn peice of paper. I have never written so small in my life. Yay for mad motor skills.

I understand they have to make you handwrite the essays. They cant make you disclose if you have a learning disability, but they can tell that way. But for people like me, who have nothing to hide, its a huge pain in the hand.

How long were yours, jtheC? And whats your top choice?

Your essays totalled up 700 words? Or were they 700 words each?

There was no way I could write a narrative and a personal essay in 700 words. So I actually went above the limit for Exeter, writing 1500-2000 words per story. Yes, they are like detailed stories. Besides, the application said "Try to limit," but never actually made that statement mandatory. So I "tried." ;)

You didn't have to handwrite the essays. But I did anyways.

Yay, that was my 200th post!

I dunno what admissions you did but in all of mine it was necessary- if not the essays then the short answer questions.

They were 700 words. I did limit. And my story was really short, cause I thought it worked better that way. I did really good essays though. I dont remember what essay it was- maybe Exeter- that asked you to look out your window and change something? Very good essay. I wont add details- adcom officers on patrol might eat me. But it was good.

Whats your top choice, J?

Btw, that looking out the window essay is from Exeter. Yep, I tried to stray from being poignant and instead write an outgoing essay. 100% legal tender.

I'm applying to three schools. I'm not sure what my top choice is. Exeter has nice all-round technology, but Hotchkiss is also very pretty. Taft is pretty too.

I wrote in as concise as possible. The Governor Dummer Academy jokes were pretty good. Oh well. :)

did anyone look at the MAPL (mid-atlantic prep league) schools?
lawrenceville, peddie, blair, messersburg, the hill, etc. all of these schools are under rated imho.

I did at first but then decided to only apply to the three I knew that if I got into I would not have to consider staying at home. They're good, but in my opinion not good enough for me to leave home.

wquong, i had an interview at taft...
sword chic, u should get in. they really like people persons.
My essays were pretty long, a good size. I used tiny writing, just in case..

and my tiny writing is tiiiny.

hi everybody! All these east schools seems very competitive and great but unfortunately i am in the west.... any body else in the west?? I am applying to Cate and Thacher.. EVERYBODY (IF APPLIES) DECISIONS ARE COMING IN FEW DAYS!! MARCH 10

I know. im dying of antici...

...pation.

i'm a rocky horror picture show fan.

Prepparent- do you mean Mercersburg? I've never heard of the other one.

tappingprep: hehe wait... have patience... to what schools did you apply for?

wow.. i am impressed that the majority say that the SSAT is not that important (but still..)

I will jot down some information and I wish some reply about it and if I have any chance:

-member of student government
-head of advisor class
-member of national junior honor society
-community service chairman
-hobbies- golf, pingpong, soccer, softball..
-participated in ultimate frisbee
-grades- A's... very rarely B's
-SSAT: (this part scares me..) 901/1050 :(
-good recommedation from head of school + teachers.
-had a good interview

(i hope i am not exaggerating =)

Your opinion counts and i would really appreciate it. Please tell me if I have any chance. Thanks!!!!!!

You look like you're a good student and a good applicant.

What was the percentage on that SSAT score? I dont know about the scores. If you're 80+ then you should be fine.

I'll give you as good a chance as any of us have. Which is pretty slim. But still!

I got into a day school in my area! Huzzah! My last choice, but at least I have an option!

thanks TJ for your reply. in the percentage, i think it's 86 =( b/c 901 divided by 1050... what schools are you applying to?

Don't do the percentages that way- math and reading have a higher percentage than the vocab part does- my D got a 97 reading, 96 math, and 60 yikes vocab, but that was a 92%...so you can see the reading and mathh count for ALOT more then the vocab section...look at your results again and get the actual %....
