Daughter's appointment to USMA arrived in the mail today. Yippie! For those interested in the timeline, it took abt 5 days between the time her first nomination appeared on the candidate website to when she received the green folder (her LOA was issued in mid-July).

Great news! Better start breaking in those boots...

Green folder?? Someone help me out here.

The official appointment arrives in a green folder.

Haha, yes. I understood that part. I was just interested in hearing more about it. Someone told me you receive a plaque of some sort..? If that's true, what is it for...?

Congratulations Shogun. A well deserved Christmas gift.

Hope you and your family have a great Christmas.

The green folder contains a certificate certifying the offer of appt. It is a padded type of folder similar to what you see HS diploma's come in. Pretty nifty!
Hang tough everybody!!

The folder is very impressive! The outside has a seal with " Department of the Army-United States of America". When it's opened one side has your name imbossed and says "The admissions committee of the United States Military Academy takes great pleasure in announcing an Offer of Admission to ....your name... Class of 2008 (my sons) and this is signed by the Director of Admissions.

The side comes with a letter that starts with :
"On behalf of the President and the Secretary of the Army, I am pleased to announce that the United States Military Academy has accepted you for admission, contingent upon continuation of your excellent recordand your medical and dental qualification at the time of enrollment.

Congratulations! Your appointment to the class of 2008 is an extremely noteworth accomplishment. In gaining admission , you have demonstrated an exceptional potential for future service to your country and fellow citizens. "

Then it goes on to list different items to be considered before accepting your admission. Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect. The Air Force Academy sends on something that is similiar.

On the topic of boots, my daughter tells me that while at the IAW this summer the academy told the candidates that they were considering changing the type of boots from what they have had in the past. Evidently the ones they are considering don't get "shined"--I'm no army type so I have no clue what they are talking about--I guess we'll find out when they tell us.

Heh! Once more, "the Corp has..."

Shogun: They may be refering to the brown combat boots which are being phased in with the newer army combat uniform.

Aspen, yes I think that is how my daughter described them--she was just excited that you don't have to shine those!

Have a great holiday!

Congradulations to your daughter Shogun!

Going slightly off topic, how do you get the boots? Do you have to purchase them yourself, or does WP issue them on R-Day? Or are they sent to you upon acceptance?

Congrats once again,

-Joel

Can someone please point me to the candidate website?

The candidate website where he/she logs in to check their file completion is a link that can be found on the admissions page of the usma website.

My daughter was told that sometime in the spring accepted candidates will be sent a letter telling them what kind of footwear to bring on R day and where they can obtain it.

Does anyone have an idea how long it takes to post info to the candidate website? My daughter received her nomination in a letter dated 12/14 from our congressman, but it still isn't posted. Is it possible that the Admissions office is closed over the holidays?

I'm guessing they took a few days off.

On Saturday afternoon while on a college visit my daughter was informed that she will receive a 4-year AROTC scholarship. It was exciting news for her and she was starting to think that this may be a great option as it was questionable if WP would offer admission. Then 45 minutes later my husband called and said the appointment arrived! Way too much excitement for 1 day!

WoW! Congrats....when it rains, it pours!

Congrats to you and your daughter Momoftwins!!! Our daughter has made her decision between the appointments to WP and Annapolis and has chosen West Point. If you have any questions about the stuff you need to turn in prior to R day just ask. We are about 60% through with what they have asked for so far. Again, Congrats!
