Congrats MomofTwins

My son is still waiting to hear - he got his House nomination about four weeks ago and a Senate nomination two weeks ago. What are your daughter's sat's, gpa, activities - and which State do you live in? Thanks.

Thanks, Kate aand Shogun. Now it's just a matter of making up her mind. The ROTC program was surprisingly intriguing. After all the fretting for the past few months, I thought it would be an easy choice. I can't wait to see what she decides.

Shogun, I'm curious. How did your daughter make her selection decision? I expect it was very difficult for her.

Congrats to your daughter, momoftwins! That's really exciting! Something very similar happened to me. I got my AROTC scholarship from Notre Dame, and the next day, I heard about my Appointment. It's really funny how things end up. After a lot of internal moaning and groaning, I've made my decision: I'm going to WP! I'd kind of known the whole time that that was where my heart lay, but I really was trying to ignore it. I wanted the "normal" college experience, I guess. At least, other people had convinced me that I wanted that "normal" college experience. But now, I can't WAIT to go! I'm starting to read, and my PT will pick up as soon as soccer season is over. What an experience this will be...

Marines4me - congratulations on your decision. Time to change your screen name!

marines4me, you're abandoning us! :( No, I'm really excited for you! I'm looking forward to being able to make my decision soon. It's driving me crazy not knowing where I'll be.

Momof Twins

Like our friend Marines4me, I think she always kind of knew and most likely kept the navy option open "just in case". I know that when she came back from both summer programs she had a definite preference for WP and it's atmosphere and cadre which she termed as "a bit more disciplined" . I think that even more she just preferred the options for after graduation. God help us, she wants be be in the "thick of it" and argues that if she's gonna do that she had better go to the best indiividual leadership school she can find --for her that appears to be WP. Iwould have been proud to have her attend either, but it's always been her choice--it has to be. I think she understands what she may be giving up at a regular college--her brother is a senior at USC (living in a frat house) so she has seen the "fun" up close (esp after their 2nd national football championship in a row--I think that school is still rocking a week later!) and it just doesn't appeal to her. Funny how you can have two kids with similar abilities but TOTALLY different dreams!

marines4me,

Congratulations on your decision! After watching "Surviving West Point" I can certainly understand why a "normal" college experience looks so appealing. I suspect that after thinking this through she will come to a similar decision.

Thanks, guys! Nah, not abandoing you, Navygirl. If you go to the USNA, we'll see each other in Philly each year! My best friend is going to Navy, so we'll have a fun time, that's for sure!

momoftwins, I haven't seen "Surviving West Point" yet, but it should be here any day now. Was it that bad? lol, now I'm getting a little nervous.

Hey Shogun, I know I've asked this before, but what's your daughter's email again? I'm starting an email group of c/o 2009ers. I've already gotten about 5-6 or so, and I'm sure the list will keep on growing. I was hoping maybe everyone could get to know each other and maybe we could all meet face to face the day before R-Day.

Marines4me
My daughter's email is cadetgirl@muchomail.com
Her name is Jenna

Marines-4-me~Congrats on your decision. I hope you will keep us all updated as the next few months roll by! New York state will be beautiful for you this summer and fall but be prepared for the winters :-) We had quite a bit of snow this week during a very mild winter! You will enjoy watching Surviving West Point ...it's better to go prepared.

To all the future Academy bound students ~ Somewhere I read it is a great idea to write yourself a letter sometime soon (after your appointment) and seal it...give it to your parents to mail about halfway through beast or plebe summer. Write down why your passion is an academy. It will help to remind you during the summer when things look so different!

Best of Luck!
JM

Been of the net for a little while and it looks like its been a busy and productive week for many of you.

Congratulations to Shogun, marines4me and momoftwins !! West Point has certainly gained some great cadets.

Hope to hear some more good news from the other candidates.

Thanks, Aspen!

JM, I've actually already written myself a letter! I plan to write several more. I'm also going to memorize as many movie quotes as possible so there can be at least a LITTLE entertainment.

If there are any other accepted candidates that plan on going, please shoot me an email at : usmafury@hotmail.com. I'd love to meet ya!

SHOGUN Now that your daughter is accepted and has decided to attend WP, what kind of paperwork is expected of her? I'm interested in knowing what forms have to be completed, etc. Also, despite DODMERB qualification, does WP require the medical file of the accepted candidate?

Adam
Well, so far she has had a police record check done and sent in, panographic and bitewing xrays of her mouth taken and sent in along with a questionnaire filled out by her dentist, a two page form listing all of her immunizations to date completed by her doctor and sent in, an eye exam card filled out by her optomotrist sent in, we are in the of getting a checking account for her from the pentagon federal credit union so her paychecks can be deposited, a certified copy of her birth certificate had to be sent in, we sent in a $3000 check for her cadet account, and 3 or 4 other misc postcards. There are also more cards to send in for her final school transcript, uniform sizes, etc. Fun Fun Fun! :)

Thanks, Shogun! The best of luck to your daughter. I received a letter from WP indicating that I am on the NWL. This is my second time applying and was hoping for better news.

Bwahaha, Shogun! So the fun really starts after acceptance? ;)

Kate
Yeah, in the last 8 days she has had dental appt, ortho appt, and an eye exam---just when you thought it was over with dodmerb! Fun Fun

grumble I HATE dodmerb! I filed so much frickin paperwork for them it's kind of ridiculous.

Has anyone heard anything from USMA Admissions in the past week or two?? Notices of being put on national waiting list? Appointments? rejections?

got my appoinment 3 days ago!
