***April 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

i felt science was much easier than usual; usually score somewhere like 28-29, this time i feel confident in 31+

Any experienced predictors wanna give a guess on the curves?

Took it today without any prep or any idea on the layout of act, didn’t think I did that bad

hi!! took the test today for my 3rd time (I’m a junior). Got 32 on my last 2 and predicting the same for this one, so I don’t think I’m gonna bother taking it again, at least not this year. I thought English and Reading were good actually but I got 36s on those before and they felt pretty much the same to me so that’s good. Math KILLED me, but I don’t think that’s because of this test. I just have a lot of trouble with timed math exams (lol @ me taking AP calc this year…). Didn’t finish because the last 10 questions freaked me out so much. I thought science was eh…nowhere near as easy as my practice but it felt like the other real ones I’ve taken in terms of difficulty- maybe a bit harder. I thought the essay prompt was SO dumb, but I hope my essay was OK. Their grading of those essays is literally insane though so I don’t know what to expect. Good luck to us all!!!

The grading on the essay is going to be strange. Hoping for the best

The essay was incredibly easy, but the topic was profoundly idiotic. I couldn’t find much to talk about due to the lack of argument to be made with the essay.
I’ve struggled on English in the past, but I feel like I did quite well due to reviewing punctuation rules and etc (Last time was a 26). (Predicted 27-28)
Math, wow, I was a little surprised! I did not expect trick questions of any sort like what they give on the SAT. I started scoring fairly well(31 on previous), I don’t think I got anything lower than a 29 or 30. I struggled with maybe one or two problems at most.
Reading, oh man that was a breeze. The topics were actually intriguing, and none of that infer/imply crap, answers could be found directly in the passage. (30+)
Science, I thought this was quite difficult. The questions were sometime extremely unclear, and I felt very anxious to rush through because the time was really constraining.

felt English was the easiest one, had a few extra minutes which I normally never do for English. math, as many have said was breezy until around 48-60. man that was terrible, and I wasted like 2 min on 1 question earlier in the test which left me with very little time for the last 5 questions or so- hardest last 10 q I faced on a math section so far. reading I found to be easy but I wasted so much time on I think the second passage so I had to rush a little through the last 2 passages and did a fair amount of guessing for the planets passage. science has always been my Achilles heel on my practice tests and I think today (unless my guessing was on point) it was as well. this was my first ACT exam, so I will definitely take it again and maybe even a 3rd time. disappointed though because I was averaging 29-30 on practice tests but today I think I got like a 27

my proctor said act sends results in 5-8 weeks but we can find out our scores in like 2 weeks right?

This test was rough !
:((

Was this test harder than the ones offered in December or February?

@elstudenttt yeah, my proctor told me that scores would come back in 3-8 weeks. I think that it is by paper. I read somewhere that online scores are released on the 19th at the earliest

Curve predictions, guys?

SAME, i feel you, i hope its really generous the third passage ending and beginnign of the fourth killed me

I think english was ok with a probable 1 wrong. Math was easy, I finished with 25 minutes left and science was also easy, finsihed with 8 minutes left but reading killed me. The end of the third passage and beginning of the fourth was so panicky for me.

Curve Predictions:

English:
1 wrong still at 36
2 wrong down to 35

Math:
1 wrong down to 35

Reading(I hope its more generous than this):
2 wrong to 35

Science:
1 wrong to 35

What do you guys think?

@Drofnats1 Would change reading to 1 wrong to 35 and science to 1 wrong still at 36. Historically, any math test that has an ellipse question is -1 still 36, so maybe the math curve might allow that

I was international and did not have an ellipse question. XD There goes my 36

I say:
English:
-0=36
-1=36
-2-3=35
-4=34

Math:
-0=36
-1=36
-2=35

Reading:
-0=36
-1=35
-2=34
-3=33 ( standard curve)

Science:
-0=36
-1=36
-2=35
-3=34

What do you guys think?

Personally I can’t guage how math will be curved because for me I made USAMO (I’m a junior) so the math is never a problem. For science also I can’t guage because I am a semifinalist for physics and chemistry olympiad so I don’t know if the curve will be that. As you can tell, my reading skills are horrible and I got butchered by today’s test with that double third passgae. English was fairly good compared to practice tests but for me I just hope a generous reading curve.

@CheckMate123 Dude the reading can’t be that. On reddit everyone was complaining on how they messed up passage 3 and 4. I don’t think it will be that harsh. It has to be 1-2 wrong for each step down. Math will be 1 wrong and dwon to 35. Science is teh same. I agree with English tho.

i personally thought the Reading first 3 were surprisingly easy, but 4th was hard, does anyone if curves are given after they get scores or are they pre-determined?

@Drofnats1

I doubt that the curve will be THAT lenient. If tests are very different depending on the forms, then I probably don’t know how hard the US test was… but my reading test was fairly difficult as well although I finished it (guessed on about three problems)

Hoping for a 33 and above.
