Hey, I was seeing who else was accepted into the architecture program at cincinnati. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to be doing next fall...september 20. I was accepted over a month ago, probably.

You got in to Cincinnati Architecture already? May I ask what your unweighted and weighted GPA was, and what was your SATs?

By the way, that is their hardest program to get into second,maybe, to their medical school.

Yeah, I did.
ACT = 32
SAT = 1350 (heh)
GPA:
Weighted= 3.8
Unweighted= 3.5
I think it's their toughest program to get into. They only accept 50 people or something like that. It's second ranked in the nation, too. I think for starters you have to have a 1320 or a 30...and a 3.25 unweighted.

According to Cincinnati's web site, you need either 1320 or top 10% of freshmen class. If rank isn't given, you need an unweighted 3.75.

My daughter didn't get 1320 on SAT and has an unweighted GPA of about 3.45, but her weighted GPA is around a 4.0 due to the fact that she is in a magnet program and almost everything was honors or AP. In addition, even with this nice weighted GPA, she wasn't even in the top 30%. We have some super strong kids at our high school. Thus, I guess she will be in the rest of the pack. If she doesn't get in, it will be a shame. She is a very strong, hard working student with a powerful portfolio, which won't even count for Cincinnati.

I was also accepted to UCs architecture program for 2006-07. I really don't think it's where I want to go, though. I prefered Miami University when I visited there. Still, it was a confidence boost to get that letter from such a competitive program.

so i guess the first fifty spots are filled up already???

bneg asks,"so i guess the first fifty spots are filled up already???"

Response:Not necessarily. They may not fill up all the slots yet. This is just those few early admit slots with folks who are in top 10%. If there are any leftover, which there usually are, they go through the normal admission's process.

oh that's good to hear~

I hope there are still some open. When I visited, though, they gave me the impression that if you didn't get your app in way early, then you were out of luck becaues the spots filled up from that alone so quickly. I hope that isn't the case, though. Plus, not everyone who is accepted right away actually goes there (like me, hopefully) and so they would still have those spots to fill later.

doesnotexist and CShow, where are you from?

I'm from Lima. My friend Christa also applied to Cinci, though. Cinci and Harvard are her top two choices (which is so funny sounding). The guy who did her interview from Harvard told her she was the best interview he's ever had. So basically I'm guessing she's in at both colleges and she has a tough decision to make...considering she wants Architecture, I'm trying to talk her into Cinci ;).

forgive my ignorance....where is lima??? i did a search...it's in ohio right? sorry, i just needed to confirm something....thanks!!! ah, and one small question: how did they give you your decision?? like did they just send a package to you??

yeah, Lima is in Northwestern Ohio.

I'm from Ohio and it was just a typical letter, really.

Thanks so much~~

I really want my friend to get in cause I did, and I wanted to room with him. What do you think his chances are with a 1390 M + V SAT, and a 3.7 GPA?

Jethro, are you also from ohio? (sorry for asking the same questions again and again ^-^lll)

Jethro, Cincinnati is fanatical about class rank, which is even more important than GPA, although I really don't understand why they put such a high emphasis on rank alone. Think about it: a person in the top 10% from a mediocre to poor high school, taking regular high school courses, will get accepted over an applicant in an IB program, who was only in the top third, unless they had sterling SATs. It doesn't make any sense.

If you are in the top 10% of your class, I think you have a good shot, especially if you are from Ohio.

No Im not from ohio, but Im talking about my friend here. I dont understand how UC can base it on class rank because we dont have class ranks, lol. they dont put them on our transcripts because of the competitiveness at our school. There were over 130 kids who graduated with a weighted 4.0 or higher last year!

Jethro, we have 35% of our kids graduate with a 4.0 or better weighted GPA. However, there were two magnet type of programs here.

As to not ranking,most schools send out a class profile of what it takes to be in the top 10%, 20%, 50% etc. Although, Cincinnati may not be able to tell exactly where someone ranks, they can get a good estimate.

If no estimate is available, according to their web site, they want un unweighted GPA of 3.75, although they have taken a bit lower GPA. For regular admission, they want an unweighted GPA of 3.5.

Thus, if you took all regular classes and got a 3.6, you have a better shot over someone in an IB program with a 3.4 unweighted. Very dumb in my opinion.
