Are 2nd year transfers at a disadvantage for applying to McIntire?

I applied as a second-year transfer to CAS, but what I really love about UVA is McIntire, because of their integrated core experience. So, if I do get admitted in the next couple of weeks, and am unable to get in McIntire for third year, I'd probably transfer out again (I'm looking at full price for UVA so I'd really, really want to get into McIntire- but I also would like to spend as much time at UVA at possible if that's where I'm going to end up going.)

Now, I know there's statistics about average GPA and % admitted, but I want to know if 2nd year transfers are at a disadvantage because they may have not completed some requirements at UVA or some requirements are in the process of completion still or if they do the "well they had a 3.9 from X but that's like a 3.3 at UVA" kind of stuff.

I know the official answer is probably no, but a lot of times colleges say things (nothing personal to UVA, please don't take offense). Does anyone have stories/experiences/observations/tips about 2nd year transfers and applying to McIntire for third year? Thanks.

I’m in. Gonna call and ask this tomorrow for the official answer, but does anyone have any input?

For anyone else interested: 2nd year transfers ARE at a disadvantage for applying to McIntire compared to UVA students who have been there for both years, but your chances are better than the chances of external transfers.

^^^^I’m curious……what’s your source?

yeah i’m wondering about this as well. I just got accepted to the college of arts and sciences as an OOS sophomore, but wanna eventually get into mcintire junior year. how do you know that people like us have a disadvantage? especially if we maintain a good GPA, get involved with extracurriculars, leadership positions, etc, and take all the prereqs for mcintire?

that’s just what a dean told me when i called @syzheng2 @robertr

that’s kind of disconcerting but i’m sure if we work hard enough we can all get in. @chemistryking
