are SAT II's really that important?

I wanna know...because right now my SAT score sucks and i am looking to improve that a lot, so im studying everyday and such and will take it for the second time in march (for luck! its my birthday month ) and maybe again in june if i dont do so well...but i dont think i will have time to take SAT II's. im in the IB program, so you don't really cover a full subject in one year only half (ie IB Biology I junior year, IB Biology II senior year). plus im taking like 8 ib exams...i really want to go to schools like upenn and cornell and i know upenn suggests/requires you to take two sat II's...will i be hurt by this?!

Yes, you really should take SAT IIs or consider a stab at the ACT.

but cant my ib/ap scores be used for placement as well?

I know NYU allows you to use AP scores as replacements for SAT II’s.

^True

Well, it depends on which school you apply anyways; nevertheless, all private college requires at least 2 SATs II so it’s also important.

^Not True…

If you know exactly what school you want to go to, just check their requirements.
If youre not sure, or your dream school is a reach, not a safety, then i think 2 or 3 SAT II are standard for a lot of competitive schools.

here’s another question: lets say i get accepted to cornell and didnt take any SAT 2’s, after my acceptance, can i take an sat 2 and send it to them to be still used for placement?

Im not sure about cornell - i know some colleges allow that and others dont.
You can try emailing the dean or something if you cant find that on their website.
Those guys are really helpful.

without 2-3 SAT II exams, you will be a weak candidate for the ivy leagues when all of your competitors have 2-3 SAT II exams and they all score 700-800

This is valid: Harvard puts more emphasis on your SAT II scores than on your SAT I score. Why? Because students, according to an adcom(Harvard Undergraduate), who do well on the SAT IIs demonstrate greater performance in class than do those who don’t do as well on the SAT IIs.

yeah…

Not just a weak candidate but a non-candidate as they are required at many schools.

OP, just make sure that you take them if you’re applying to schools which require them for admission. If not, then yes your IB scores can serve for placement purposes.
