im kinda not so happy, i got the room i wanted i guess? but my roommate emailed me saying that she wanted her friend as her roommate so she's going to try change rooms after school starts.......its kinda annoying b/c i mean we're going to college and you'll eventually have to meet new people you know?

I got the opposite of what I wanted but I'm getting used to it. The dorm seems cool, my roommates awesome, i'm on central campus.

Hahah Marian, I know. I was half joking when I said it, but if I am coming from the CRC, dead ass tired, I am using the elevator.

Funny thing is, I am a CJ major.

Sorry to hear about your luck Dee. That's so rude that the first thing your roomie said was, "Hi, you aren't the roommate I really wanted, so I'm bailing on you". I would be mad.

I was tricked by some cunning lady in the housing department.

I was asking her some kitchen questions about my residence hall, and after answering them, she goes on tell me that a spot just opened up in the much-praised on-campus apartments.

Despite me being a transfer student, she claimed that she could reassign me right away with my permission.

Now I already knew a lot about those apartments and was really stoked about the offer, but what she did not tell me until today was that my 3 roommates were all incoming international students.

I don't know how I feel about that. I would've much preferred to live with another transfer student or someone who already knew the school.

If they are all from different countries, then that will be awesome, but I have a feeling that they are going to be from the same Asian country and speak only among themselves in their own tongue.

It should be interesting to say the least, but I'll be optimistic and hope that it'll work out.

Would be really great to get a German, Pole, and Russian though...

"Would be really great to get a German, Pole, and Russian though..."

Hoping for some underlying hatred to come out eh? Do you have their names yet?

You're not alone, i'm living with 3 internationals too. my suitemates are both from some business school in Spain and my roommate is an international from China.

It's going to kinda suck (language barrier and all that)

I don't know what happened.

I am somehow rooming with a sophomore. who has just informed me that her friend (who is a boy!) didn't get housing so he will be living in our room. illegally. because my goodness you just cannot do that.

help!

That's a tough spot. If you tell the RA or someone, then she'll make your life miserable all year, if you keep quiet, you'll be feeling like an intruder in your own room, because your roomie and her friend will be hanging out with all kinds of other people, doing who knows what. Just see how it goes for th first few weeks, and then get a room change if it doesn't work out.

Despite the fact that I sent in my housing deposit in the beginning of April, my school decided to put me in a double room with 2 other roomates. :-

frostburg, those are my feelings exactly. but my school made it really clear to us at orientation that it is near impossible to switch roommates. :-/

I still don't have any information about by roomates, though hopefully they'll tell us soon enough :D

There is a difference between respecting the community such as that cheap idiot who wouldn't buy a microwave and that, fluppy. She is not only breaching contract but infringing on your "right" of privacy. Tell her it won't fly.

thanks neverborn, I'm trying to tell her that but I don't think she realizes she's breaking the rules and that this is like the weirdest thing ever

I'm happy with my single room.

I didn't get the dorm I wanted but it worked out for the best. I have air conditioning and carpet, and a 200 square foot room. And I'm right next to the dining hall! Also, my roommate and I get along so well. It's going to be a great year.

fluppymc, I have a friend with your EXACT situation. And screen name. ellen you're such a CC lurker.

my contribution to this thread:
I got a single. out of nowhere. and it's 108 sq. ft. how small is that? I don't get dimensions. I want to know if more than like, a bed and desk can fit in there. seriously.

It's a little bit over a 10x10. Weird dimensions actually, it would have to be like a 10.8x10 or something decimaly (haha) like that.

I really hope you straighten that out, Fluppy. It's wrong on a few levels. Dorms generally don't have enough room for two people, let alone three. I also wouldn't feel comfortable living in such close quarters with a man who I barely knew! Not to mention, you and your roommate are probably paying a lot of money for housing (unless you're there on a full ride or something), and that guy has no right to live there for free.

I lucked out with my room and roommate. The room I have isn't too big, but it's one of the most coveted buildings on campus, it has a dining hall right downstairs, and it's in the center of campus, so it will be right near all of my classes. My roommate and I have talked through email a few times and on the phone once... She seems to be a really nice person, and we have a lot in common so far.

my life is cursed.

and peachykween, I mean Julianne, I mean girl-with-the-single-at-Princeton, I'm illegally making myself a key to your room and pretending I go to pton on the weekends.

ps - testudotheturtle, if your name implies where you are going to school, you'll get to see my situation in action
