Arriving Late

Due to some complications, there is a good chance i might move in quite late - say 25th or maybe even 26th. I've heard it can get messy if i don't move in on time ( like not getting to register for the internet ). What are the potential problems i could face if i move in a day after classes start ?

Registering for the internet will be easy. The thing to worry about is being dropped from classes if you are not there for the first session, particularly classes with big waitlists.

Being late to arrive, all the girlfriend/boyfriends are taken, the ‘assigned tables’ in the dining commons are all taken leaving you to eat sitting on a step for the rest of the year, the guards at Sather gate won’t know you to let you pass into the school grounds, you will be marked as absent during attendance taken in the dorms on the first few days but won’t have brought a parent’s excuse note . . .

The only real issue is the problem of missing classes IF those require your presence to avoid a drop.

OMG … now i’m freaking out.

so how do i know if i need to be present on the very first day… written anywhere?

i dont have a prob with all the gf/bfs being taken… but i do have a prob eating on the steps. anyone else willing to share their experience?

@rider730: Ohoho I had a good laugh.

@CCnewbie: His second paragraph is just kidding. The big classes take attendance to see who to kick to make space for the waitlisted people.

^ That was a joke. Did you seriously have assigned tables beyond first grade? You will have to go to detention with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Punctuality, though.

The only issue is turning up to classes on the first day so you don’t get dropped, and I think shooting an email off to the professor if you have a good reason (which it seems like you do) should solve the problem.

thank god.

i’m a timid international. i dont understand your american jokes and ways. give me six months. :))

Haha. You guys are awefully cruel. Way to put an image on Americans! [jk]

Just move in before the 26th…but you will miss all the cal clubs/booths that they set up in the period of 23-26th. In effect, that’s the period when you meet people, chill [or party!], frat/soro. shopping, and club sign ups. So if you arrive late, you might miss out on all the fun stuff…

And then if you arrive after the 26th, you might be dropped from your classes [or sometimes if you don’t arrive to your first discussion sections. Depends on the class]

Actually it was more like my stupidity. I should’ve guessed it was a joke. The girlfriend/boyfriend booking thing was just too ridiculous to be true.

I arrived on time and the guards still won’t let me in…

I always just bribed the Sather guards with Thin Mints.

Do i have to be present on the first discussion section or the first lecture to ensure my enrollment?? I think i’ll probably miss classes on 26th… that means i’ll miss 3 lectures and 1 dis on that day. The dis is NST 10 … and i read on the online schedule of classes that i need to be there on the first discussion section. So maybe i’ll email the prof for NST 10 … do i have to do the same for lectures on that day as well ?

E-mail the professors explaining that you will not be present on that day.

The Sather Guards wont let you in unless you join CALPIRG.

You can set up an e-excuse account and have your parents send in an explanation whenever you are tardy or absent to a class, the dorms, or the dining hall. Saves you having to wait in the Dean’s office until your parents are contacted.

what about missing LECTURES? do i have to notify anyone about that?

and how do i set up this e-excuse account?

Hahahahahaha rider730, stop torturing the poor kid lol

LOL omg CCnewbie please, you’re killing me. are you a guy? where are you from?

hey, i was joking as well !!

(that was me trying to cover up)

but seriously guys, stop messing around and tell me … should i inform anyone about missing first LECTURES ? i know i have to when i miss discussions and labs… but what about lectures?

@FellowCCViewer: errrr… i’ll reveal all that in some other thread. Not this one.

omg: just email the professor. I’ve never had a lecture that took roll, usually it’s the discussion section. But if you’re not sure, just email the professor telling him you won’t be at the first section. Done. This thread is now closed!

all right all right… thanks a ton.

i’m getting a new username the next time i post.
