Asians at Vanderbilt

I think during the open house in Engineering, I saw couple of chinese americans.
And also, you don't have to worry b/c chinese student numbers dominate most of the universities compared to other asians (or maybe I'm wrong)

Asian-Asians who came to Vanderbilt to do undergrad tend to hang out with the other asian-asians and asian-americans. And asian-americans hang out with the asian-asians and the other americans (white, black, hispanic, etc). And actually, that's just a gross generalization anyway. Asian-asian also get to know the americans via classes and don't necessarily rely on asian-americans to act a bridge of sorts.

Really, the folks who come over to do graduate and professional studies (the bona fide FOB/FOPs) who just hang out with other international students. But like everyone else, they get to know american culture through their american collegues.

Small Koreans at Vanderbilt web site for those interested. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/ksa/

jn28, i'm chinese american and i'm attending next year.

hey belisaire, did you go to the mosaic weekend?

I just decided today to attend. I'm chinese american

Uhmm that's a good question....Vandy has ALOTS of white people but I see more and more Asian people at Vandy every year. Both of my parents work at Vandy and I took a biochem class there this year. The fact is that Vandy has changed so much from what it was 5 to 10 years ago. I came to Nashville 8 years ago and my father knew literately every Chinese person who works at Vandy. Now it is impossible to walk in front of the biomedical library without seeing Asian faces =p

no, i wasn't invited to mosaic weekend...i have no idea why...i'm definitely a minority. maybe it was because i was invited to the honor scholarship weekend? i have no idea.

hey wsup
Im a Korean male at Vandy, gonna be a Soph next year
If you lookin for a huge social Korean group and an environment where you can meet new asian faces everyday....yea not gonna happen
but if youre down with a relatively tightknit asian community thats what youre going to find.Id type more but im lazy so if you got any questions hit me up on my aim at daewoo9mm

I didn't know daewoo made 9mm handguns. hah, strange sn. Thanks for the warm welcome, hyung.

Hey I'm a Chinese american senior from atlanta. I really want to go to vandy and im wondering if you guys know about how many asians are in frats at vandy or how many frats have asians in them?

vandy has considerably less asians that at other schools, but that's changing rapidly. Asian's do tend to clique together somewhat, but it's like that at every campus I'd imagine.
IMO, it's no big deal. Come here to find people you can mesh with, regardless of race.

Vanderbilt has by far the lowest Asian percentage of "academic" schools. You might be comfortable, you might not be comfortable. Probably worth a visit to find out.
