Hello, seeing as it is acceptance season, and I wish that I had something like this last year when I was applying, I would like to make myself available for any questions involving the freshman experience or the first year of the Nursing Program!
Some facts about yours truly -
Male
From the Jersey Shore (I live 20 minutes south of where the TV show was filmed!)
HS GPA - 3.8 UW
ACT - 32
SAT - 2270 (Old SAT, obviously)
Things I did in High School, off the top of my head - Swim team (captain Sr year, varsity Jr/Sr), Tennis team (Captain Jr/Sr year, varsity 4 years), 5 AP classes (on the exams I got 2 threes, 2 fours, and a five) Member of one of two clubs, no leadership positions. Active member of Student Government. Member of NHS
Other things I did that probably bolstered my Application - I was an Ocean Lifeguard for two summers prior to application season. I also volunteered in my local hospital from grades 8-12.
Please ask away!!
(I would add more about my time at Pitt, but I don;t know what information to include, so if you have a question just ask it!)
Overall, do you enjoy yourself at Pitt? I was recently accepted and it is one of my top choices, but I’m just wondering how the student experience is there. Also, do you find the academics challenging?
I’m from the same area and knew I wanted to go semi-far, but after I heard a couple people complaining about the cost to travel home I became a little apprehensive. How do you feel about the distance for traveling and just overall? Coming home certainly isn’t just a weekend trip. Also, what form of traveling is the easiest and most cost effective? I highly doubt my parents would want to take the 12+ hour trip to drop me off/drive back home. Thanks in advanced!
@tbguy09 I have very similar stats except I never took the ACT and never did sports!
I just want to know how time consuming the class is for you, and the general difficulty of the classes. I’m worried about Anatomy and most of the first year classes (i suck at english!) since they’re the most different than the years that clinicals start.
Thank you for doing this
Pitt has “Buses Home for the Holidays”. The buses go to various locations in PA, NY and NJ. The cost is between $100 - $160 round trip. The buses are available for the major breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring).
Not sure if this link will work, but you can also look it up on the Pitt website:
I have a child at Pitt. Pittsburgh has an urban feel, but to me it feels more like Boston than NYC. The immediate area around Pitt is vibrant with students from both Pitt and CMU, but there is also neighboring green space at Schenley Park. It feels like an urban college town to me, but I’m not sure what that means to you. I can try to help if you have specific questions.
Pittsburgh definitely gets cold during the winter!
Nursing specific classes begin freshman year. Clinicals begin sophomore year.
Feel free to PM me with questions. Congrats to your D!
Hi-
I recently applied to Pitt’s nursing program and got a letter asking for my midterm grades. I know this is most likely a bad sign seeing as it’s a competitive program that fills up quickly. However, I was wondering if you could give me any information on my chances?
GPA: 93.2
SAT: 1250
ACT: 27
Ap classes: ap calc, ap Chem, ap US, ap gov, Ap world, Ap Lang
I’m very involved here are some of my activities
-varsity soccer, varsity track, Vice President of student council, treasurer of my class, drama club, work at a burrito place-about 15 hours a week, coach soccer, planned a 5k for golisanos children’s hospital
If you could give me any information on my chances that would be great, just be totally honest.
Thanks so much!!
Hi
Not sure if you are still responding to this a year later but my son just applied to UPitt nursing. What is it like for a guy in that field there? He is on the crew team and plays lacrosse (loves to be outside and active) and has a 1350 SAT with a 3.5 unweighted GPA - all honors with 8 AP classes. He is really interested in Pitt and hopes if he gets in that he has a chance at some research opportunities there. Thanks for any info!
