Are there single bedrooms at Binghamton?

Only in the apartments which aren't open to Freshman. The housing site mentions or at least mentioned that you can pay for 2 spots and get a single in the normal communities, but they haven't been offering it recently.

I heard that lots of kids especially from NYC transfering from Bing after first year because it's too boring there

Like most schools, Bing is what you make of it. I'm a transfer student, I came from a school in New York to Binghamton, and I am much happier here than I was there. I can't promise happiness, but there are things to do here. You sometimes have to look, but there's fun to be had.

You should tell them how annoying the hall government is. ;)

What's the hall government?

Don't worry, it's nothing bad. I just figured out who orcsand0wls was last night. ;)

The hall government is just the government of your dorm building. They organize events for the dorm and have weekly meetings where the hall can vote on what to do with the halls money and stuff like that. For example, we're have assoxiantion right now. One each person is given a card with someone elses name on it. They have to throw a sock at that person. If they be the person, then they have to get whoever that person was trying to get. It goes till there's only one person left.

just a question about the dorms again. Someone mentioned that College in the Woods is known as the hippie dorm. Is this still true? Wood CIW be a good choice for someone from Long Island who wants to meet new people and not live with everyone they knew from High School?
also, are there freshmen in Mountainview and Hinman?

You'll meet new people in any dorm. The people aren't really that different community to community, but yes CIW is the hippy community.

Freshman can live in any community other than Hillside and Susquehanna which are apartments. If you want to live in Mountainview, you have to choose it now. It's virtually impossible to move into Mountainview from another community.

Okay Bootes, you obviously know who I am! So who are you?

I'm a potenial transfer student for fall 2009. Just a housing question, do you know where they would put transfers? I've heard there aren't any spots at all and all of the transfers would have to live off campus. Is it as easy as they say getting off campus to the main campus using the buses?

are there any kids from Philadelphia area?

I'm Alex the Social VP candidate. ;)

Transfers could go in any of the dorms, I don't know where you would end up. There are lots of buses that are free, which I guess could be fine for getting to class. Living on campus is obviously much easier.

I don't know anyone from the Philadelphia area, my suitemate lives near Scranton. The vast majority of students are from NY, especially Long Island/NYC.

Bootes: Oh Hai! Sorry that my suite is so not hall involved. But as you can see, I've got some love for Binghamton! How did you figure me out? Also, did you win? You guys deserved to.

Bingtransfer10: Transfers can live in any dorm, but you'll want to get your housing deposit in as soon as you can. This year, they did run out of spaces for transfer students and people were left without housing. It is pretty easy to find a place, though - Craigslist and the bulletin boards on campus are about with "seeking one roommate!" flyers. Busses to and from the downtown area are really easy. I know people who rely on them to get to and from campus and while it's not always the most efficient thing, it is manageable.

I'm a transfer myself, so if you have any transfer-specific questions, feel free to ask away.

We lost the election. :( I saw your AIM SN on Facebook and thought it looked familiar. Answering the door and telling the government people that they're annoying actually makes you more active in the hall government than most people. ;)

Scranton to Philly is about 3 hours away and its another hour from there to Bing. So I figure Scranton won't count in searching for people from Philly area.

What do you guys think about using fire sharing programs like DC++ or Shakespeer?

Shakespeer is a DC++ client. As long as you're on the Binghamton DC++ server, you're safe.

how many transfer students does Binghamton take a year ... I myself applied as a transfer but am still waiting to hear back from them

I'll be entering as a junior transfer in the fall and I was wondering about housing. Do transfers usually live off campus? If not, where do they usually live? If so, do transfers have a harder time assimilating socially?
