Fly3r: I'm not sure how many transfers Bing takes in an average year. This year will probably be more difficult than last due to the increase in applications.

talkinghead: I was a junior transfer! Some students lived on campus this year, others off. If you didn't pay your deposit by the deadline, there was simply no housing for you on campus. Off-campus, there are plenty of places to live near Binghamton, most of them downtown. If you're looking for off-campus housing, I suggest Craigslist. It's been a good option for a few people I know.

As for social assimilation, I found it fairly easy. There were a few transfer student mixers (a board game night, a bagel brunch) where transfers had the opportunity to meet each other. I suggest going to every club general interest meeting that's even vaguely interesting to you - you'll meet lots of people that way, and even if you don't stick with the club, you'll have a few more familiar faces. In my experience, people here are fairly friendly.

My suite was made up of 2 freshmen girls, myself and another transfer student, and the RA. I've heard of transfers living with freshmen in suites, but not in corridor rooms. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that I've not heard of it.

Whats going on Guys? My name is Alex and first I just want to say that this Thread has been extremely informative and helpful. I'm currently an undergrad at a community college in NYC. I really am striving to get into Binghamton after I get my associates degreee in a year. I just have a couple questions that maybe you guys can help me out with:

Approximately how much is room and board each SEMESTER?

How difficult is it to make it into the SOM? I'm currently a business major..

When did you guys choose to transfer to Bing? Please include your stats.

we're planning to visit Bing next Saturday (it's our third try). Any suggestion on what to see, whom to ask all important questions about financing, housing, classroom sizes?

Well the housing office (reslife) is in College in the Woods, I believe finance people are in the hallway between the Lecture Hall and Student Wing. Your tour guide can probably help you with those. I would definitely set up a meeting with whoever is in charge of your major. I met with Eileen Head, undergraduate program director for CS, when I visited. Although I didn't really have any questions or anything to say at that time, it was very helpful.

Congratulations! Ah, I don't know when I am going to hear from Bing.. :( I applied in mid January. I called admission office today and they said they haven't sent out yet and it would take a couple of weeks... I am also a transfer applicant. (Harpur) I see some people say exactly on April 1st.. and some already got accepted. I am confused... and I am dying to hear something... UGHHHHHH.

We finally made to an Open House in Bing on Saturday. What surprised me was that there were not too many kids on campus or even in dorms (we were shown Mountainview). Even dining halls were either empty or close. Was there anything going on on 3/21 in college? I thought that most kids stay on campus on the weekends.

I like playing basketball or just shooting around by myself sometimes. I was wondering if there was an open gym where I could go and just start a pickup or something like that.

JB: I can tell you that my Saturday got a late start. I didn't get out of bed until 1 in the afternoon, and I know that things were similar for many people I know. A lot of people seem to use Saturdays for studying and laundry. It was also pretty chilly out yesterday, so people were probably hanging out indoors. Mountainview is a suite-style community, which means that people often stay in the common area of their suite, rather than their building. In a community like Dickinson or Newing, you might have seen more people out and about. I hope that helps to explain things. People ARE here on the weekend, but that doesn't always mean that they're out of their rooms!

We were there from 1 till about after 4. Parked in the Visitor's parking not far from Admissions. We saw more cars on our parking lot than driving by. Most kids seeing the visitors had a need to scream something. My wife is really afraid that campus is too empty on the weekend. And weather was O.K. it was a bit chilly but sunny. What was the tallest building on campus? I don't think I caught a name of it.

Kids will be kids. I find that lots of people act like they've never seen a tour group before, I've got no idea why. For me, campus is fine on weekends. It can be quiet, but it's never completely dead. Like I said, lots of people start the day late. And the weekend is often the time when people do their off-campus errands: running to WalMart or Wegmans, going to the mall, etc. The weekend before this one, when it was really warm out, campus was much more alive. People came outside to play football, go wandering in the nature preserve, and just take in the sun. I saw a couple of acapella groups practicing outside instead of in their usual practice spaces - the weather was too good to resist. When it's chilly out, things tend to be quieter.

I believe the tallest building on campus is the library tower, which everyone just calls the library tower. It's real name might be the Glenn G. Bartle Library Tower, but don't hold me to that. It's got lots of offices, various Harpur College departments are housed there.

We came in a little earlier so we went in to the mall where Macy's and the bon-ton are. I think it's on Rte 17? There weren't too many people around noon time. Didn't see a single kid in the mall wearing anything BU. My D bought a sweatshirt later on in the bookstore.
