Ask a current UCSB student anything :)

@picordy i think all of those “special” dorms fall under the category of LLC

@swagandtag
I’m honestly not sure about transfer housing. I know transfers are guaranteed a spot in on campus housing. I know they definitely give priority to continuing students for the undergrad apartments but I’m not sure what the Vance’s are for transfers. I would say look for housing in somewhere like San raf as well just in case or somewhere in IV

Okay so a lot of you have asked about LLCs so heres what I know. An LLC is basically just a certain floor or wing of a dorm that has a specific theme. There’s everything from the multicultural floor to the outdoor adventure floor to the performing arts floor etc. they give you a list and descriptions of all the floors in your housing contract. When you’re applying for housing you have he option of ranking your LLCs. People who pick LLCs are placed first for dorms. So, for example, when I was filling out my housing contract I knew Anacapa was my number housing choice. They happened to have a scholars LLC in Anacapa. For scholars floors you get priority if you’re honors, engineering honors, or CCS. Since I’m honors I was pretty much guaranteed a spot in Anacapa. About a third of our floor isn’t honors though, but since they put an LLC in their housing contract they got priority placement. The same goes for the other LLCs as well. Hope that helps clear it up :)

Seems like many of the dorms offer only triples, how does that work for most people?

Yeah, can we count on tripples? I really don’t want to have to spend the extra cash for a double if I end up in the dorms.

Are there any fun/ interesting classes that UCSB offer?

How do most students pay to go to UCSB? I’m only offered loans.

Hey there,
I got a D last semester and I notified UCSB around late march. I lost a really close friend last semester and I guess I took it harder than I thought. I’m admitted but I’m really worried they’ll revoke my admission. Would they tell me right away or not until I send transcripts? Ack I’m really worried. Do you think they’ll revoke?

Hi, do you have any important information concerning Pre-Med/Health at UCSB?
Is it as good as Davis’s and is it worth pursuing at UCSB?
Can you expect the same at UCSB for Pre-Med as you would from UCD?

to dzk981

you must inform ucsb of any grade change. They most likely will not revoke your admission as long as you contact them. Also you must keep your gpa above 3.0 your senior year.

email
Elizabeth.Acebu@sa.ucsb.edu

she is the person that will evaluate your application and determine. If you do not contact them it is a 50/50 chance.

Make sure you call admissions prior to email to get all information you need to include in email.

Thanks so much for responding. I sent a letter to the Office of Admissions in March. Should I also email just to be safe?

Hello, I’m going to UCSB as a Pre-Biology major. I applied for a Physiology major, but now I’m thinking of switching to a B.S. Biological Sciences major. Since I am Pre-Bio, can I just petition for a Biological Science major after I finish the prerequisites since they are the same for both majors? Or do I have to petition for a change of major? Thanks!

anyone had taken spanish 2 or physics 127AL? what are the hw, courses like?

How friendly are the students? are they judgemental like high school kids. Do straight people get along with the gays? Is the UCSB community accepting of all races, sexual orientation, interests, etc.?

yea caliboy, everyone’s pretty chill. It’s a pretty laid-back community, and everywhere you go people will offer you alcohol and/or marijuana/cigs as long as you got a couple ladies with you. There are a lot of pretty douchy people though, and lots of slores. I know a few people who were raped, so it can get intense. As for straight people and gays, things go pretty well between the two groups.

mimixu, I’m pretty sure you will have to petition for a change of major. It should be easy though since they’re both under the Department of Biology. I would make sure and ask an advisor. You shouldn’t have to worry too much about it right now though, since you’re barely getting started.

Triples
Okay so a couple of you asked about triples so here you go! I live in a triple myself and I love it. Most people love their triples and it doesn’t hurt that they are about $4000 cheaper than doubles. You can request a triple on your housing application an if you do that you’ll most likely get one. On the website they tell you that most triples are temporary, but that’s not really true anymore. Since there are so many more new incoming students to ucsb in the last couple of years, there are a lot more triples and most of them stay that way. If you have roommate problems or don’t like your dorm you can request a room change but that doesn’t happen very often in my experience.

dzk981
You should definitely email. for the most part people who got bad grades their last quarter still got in just make sure you let admissions know what happened and why and I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Fred, do you know a lot of students who go to UCSB on very very big student loans?

@cyoung1319
Yeah ucsb offers a lot of interesting classes it really just depends on what you like personally and a lot of it comes down to the professor. I took cultural anthropology last quarter and though it was the most interesting class but a lot of my friends had taken it the quarter before with a different professor and hated it. It doesn’t hurt to try a class especially if it’s for GEs. If you don’t like it at least you got some requirements out of the way. I’m actually considering minoring in anthropology now.
