Ask a Temple University student here

Hey, everyone. My name is Mike, and I'm a Freshmen Biology major here at Temple University. I developed this thread to answer some of your questions. I'm involved on campus and I'm an active student here, so feel free to ask anything! Whether its on getting in to Temple, dealing with financial aid and scholarships, social life, or academics, I'll answer your questions honestly and candidly.

Hey Mike!

I wasn’t really able to find an answer throughout Temple’s website;

When is tuition due? I’m not able to pick my classes until the 9th at orientation and I don’t think I’ll be able to apply for private student loans and receive them in time for the start of the semester, with move in on the 19th.

Hi Nix,
I actually don’t know the exact dates for the entire bill since I actually received private scholarships to cover the gap between my temple university merit. I do know that you can participate in course registration and orientation without paying your tuition; however you must pay your deposit which goes towards your tuition. I do know that the first e-bill is due five days before the start of the semester. It is recommended that you pay the entire bill by the first e-bill, but it is not required since many students struggle with payments. I have quoted part of the bursar’s website.

“For the first bill of the fall and spring semester, students will be billed with a minimum amount due that represents 50% of current term charges less anticipated financial aid plus any prior term balances. While the total amount due is the recommended payment, students are required to pay the minimum amount due to remain in good financial standing with the University”

“opt to pay the minimum amount due will be automatically enrolled in the University’s Deferred Payment Plan. Students will be assessed a non-refundable $25 deferred payment plan fee if the total account balance is not paid by the due date”

Fall Billing Schedule
Fall 2013:
First e-bill issued July 22 and due August 21
Second e-bill issued September 2 and due September 25
Third e-bill issued September 30 and due October 16
Spring Billing Schedule
Spring 2014:
First e-bill issued December 9, and due January 15
Second e-bill issued January 27 and due February 26
Third e-bill issued March 3 and due March 19

The website below explains the situation in detail

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask away and #cherryon !

Mike, my kid will be freshman at Temple next year. Should i try to get the housing deposit in ASAP to help him have more say in his dorm room selection or is the May 1 date truly fine for a freshman? Thanks.

My D is a sophomore at Temple.
If you want your best choice of housing I would get the deposit in as soon as possible. They determine your housing sign up date by the when the deposit is received.

I don’t know how it is now with the addition of Morgan Hall this year, but when my D was an incoming freshman, little to no housing was left by May 1st.

Morgan hall is the best dorm. I’m living in it right now and I get the view of the skyline. I paid my deposit like mid February and got my housing selection April 1st at around 10am

@ctl987 Housing selection is a first come, first served basis at Temple. If your kid is truly 100 percent sure on Temple, then I would send in your deposit as soon as possible. Last year, there was no housing left by mid-April until people decided to give up their deposit and go to another school(which only opened like 10-15 spots). Be aware that Morgan hall does cost additional compared to the other residence halls. If money is tight, then I would truly recommend 1300 especially if your child is in honors (I can only speak from knowledge; however I commute to school).

thanks and some more questions. Yes, he will be in honors so I think he def gets a spot at 1300 if he wants it and he gets guaranteed housing as honors. is it still wise to get money in right away so he has better pick on room and roomates? sounds like a resouding yes. Also, if he were to go to Morgan, would Temple allow me to take a bigger plus loan(parent loan) to cover the extra cost? and can you guys tell me what u like the most and the least about Temple? thanks.

As a prospective student, I hear so much about Temple’s campus and the surrounding area. I’ve been to the main campus and love it, but is there anything to do directly around the perimeter? I’ve seen a movie theater, some restaurants, and the supermarket. Is there anything else? Thanks!! :)
