@plexus You have full say, though likely your advisors will highly recommend keeping the courses for your major, and first-year writing is usually best taken first semester if one doesn’t have AP/IB credit. If you have credit, you can obviously remove that. Usually, the pre-registered courses are only those for your major + first-year writing though - is there something else there? Curious if pre-registration has changed at all.
When does one typically receive their housing information? I am going to orientation on June 11th and I was wondering if I will already know by then. Thanks!!
Nope housing info comes out late in the summer
@PengsPhils Only CS 1800,1802,2500,2501 and Engw 1111. It’s the time slot that I have problem with
Do u think these are all the classes I will be taking, cus only CS 1800,2500 and Engw 1111 are core lecture classes, plus it adds only to 14 credits total
@the4thschuyler guess I will be seeing you at the orientation
@PengsPhils We just checked my son’s schedule on blackboard and all his courses say something like this:
CS2500 10500 Fundamentals of Computer Sci 1 SEC 02 Fall 2018 BOS-1-TR
What does “not currently available” mean?
If you don’t have AP credit to replace English then yes, you will be taking all three of those. You will also have one course to choose so it adds up to 4 classes + labs. You can absolutely try to change lectures/times for the classes though likely options will be limited given that everyone has selected classes. You’ll have of course a lot more freedom starting second semester and will be registering at the same time as everyone else.
That’s just blackboard because the class hasn’t been created there (and won’t be until Fall). Going through myNortheastern to My Schedule will give the official class info - Blackboard is simply a reflection of that with less information.
Thanks @PengsPhils
I still don’t see My Schedule. These are all the links we can see:
Blackboard
Career Development
Career Tools
Disability Resource Center
Educational Resources
Experiential Learning/Co-op
Husky Card Services
Manage Accounts
Student Financial Services
Student Services
Study and Course Resources
Tech Marketplace for Students
University Health and Counseling Services
Update Enrollment Information
Newly Admitted Student Links
Hm, I guess that must unlock later, though I don’t know when exactly. Did you try searching for it on the links/services search bar?
The blackboard placeholders should tell you the section number though, so that plus searching for courses you should be able to plan for scheduling before orientation.
Some useful resources beyond course listings:
https://searchneu.com/ - Student made searching for classes, professors, pretty much anything
https://neu.courseoff.com/ - Great for comparing classes and seeing the schedule/options/available spots. Pulls data from the course listings.
@PengsPhils do I take cs 1200 first semester?
@plexus Yes, I believe so. It’s more or less an intro to college course though and won’t be any significant work.
Wait, I just checked and the website says housing comes out in mid-june could that be before the 11th?
@the4thschuyler Last year the housing assignment email came out on Friday June 9th
@bethanylm291 are you in the school of engineering? I’ve heard from some other students that their schedules haven’t been released (for good reason; they also received a survey of some sort for registering for courses.) I wouldnt worry about it too much because it is, of course, just an overview.
Thanks!! @suzyQ7
Hello!
I’m a freshman in high school (3.88 GPA unweighted, 3.92 weighted) so college is a bit far but I’m very interested in Northeastern University. I’m hoping if I bring up my GPA and do well enough on the SAT and ACT I’ll have a good shot. I’ve been wondering about three things:
- What’s the housing like for freshman?
- Does anyone know approximately what GPA, SAT scores, or ACT scores I would need to have in order to be in the honors program?
- Does anyone know what it takes to be in the Ujima Global Leaders Program?
Thanks.
Freshman housing is pretty typical - almost exclusively standard doubles in average buildings, organized by LLC’s which you can look up on the website. Honors housing is suite-style rooms in the newest building, one of the main perks of honors. Housing gets a lot better second year and beyond though which is nice - mostly full apartments with single/double rooms.
The honors program is the top 10-15% of the incoming class so the stats will be similar to the top 25% ranges for the college overall. Overall the honors program is not a big difference so I wouldn’t focus or worry about that. You end up with more requirements in exchange for housing perks your first few years and now a stipend for going abroad which can more or less equate to a free dialogue. Academically you’ll get a few smaller intro classes but otherwise it’s the same honors or not.
Sorry, I don’t know anything about that program That said, I would assume the standards to be very high even compared to admission generally.
@nickyflash my son is on CCIS. I can see his schedule on Blackboard now.
Housing assignments have been released today as well.
Hi guys, I’m new to the thread. Do anyone know how to find off-campus apartment? I’m just recently admitted to Northeastern and need to find an apartment very soon.
