@fingerscrossed SAMMMMMME. lol. i am still waiting to hear back from a few schools but i would seriously need an apartment
Join the Northeastern Community on Facebook and look for sublets/roommates/leases there. There are 3-4 main groups there with names along the lines of roommates, housing, etc. You’ll need to verify via your husky email to get in. There’s also a public Boston housing group on Facebook as well.
If you’re looking to sign a lease then contacting realtors is probably the best bet once you find roommates.
Does anyone know when is the deadline to send the official transcript for transfer student? I still have one class need to take over the summer and the class ends on 8/10. Is it still possible to send the transcript that late and will NEU accept summer class? Thanks in advance.
Can anyone find the Housing Online Link???
@tt8082 “To access Housing Online, log onto your myNortheastern portal, then select Services & Links and click on Housing Online”, when you press service and links it should be the first option next to orientation
hey everyone, so i got my schedule at orientation and my classes are 10 minutes apart besides one which is 5 minutes apart (the classes are located on opposite sides of campus). will this be enough time to get to class? i emailed my advisor asking to make changes but she replied saying every class is full and 5-10 minutes is enough time to get around campus along with professors being understanding of travel time. this may only apply to high school but i feel professors would be mad if i showed up to class late
@frosh18 most professors really won’t care with a few exceptions. That is indeed a high school thing. If a professor cares, you can explain the situation and if they still require you be there you can leave your previous class a few min early. No class is more than 10 min apart, with an average being under 5. If you light job it’s usually possible to make anything 5 minutes if it’s that important but again, it’s 99% of the time not. What are the specific buildings for the 5 min gap?
@PengsPhils hasting suite and behrakis health science center
@frosh18 That’s only a 5-6 min walk in my experience. Google maps has it at 8 which will probably reflect time navigating the buildings themselves too in the end. You’ll be just fine either way.
@PengsPhils i have the opposite problem that @frosh18 has. My classes are at least 2 hours apart each and despite my request before orientation and during, it look like my schedule is set. I’m not used to such large gaps between classes, what do i do with the times in between?
@plexus That’s a very normal part of college you’re going to have every semester usually - most prefer it. You can go back to your dorm and do homework, socialize, get food, go downtown to the commons to study in fresh air, whatever you want. College will give you much more unstructured time you choose what to do with.
@PengsPhils How do you change your meal plan? And do you think a 10 meal plan is sufficient? I can pass by without wasting extra $800, but are there any problems i might be blind to in regards to campus dining?
when do schedules usually become available online providing teacher, location, and books to purchase?
Check around on myNortheastern in Services/Links, everything generally is always there. The 10 meal plan means you need 4 meals (assuming you eat breakfast in your dorm usually on your own by other means - you can do that by eating out cheap, getting groceries, etc and absolutely save money, but factor in and consider those costs before viewing it as savings. The 10 was plenty for me but it depends on the person. A nice thing is you can always upgrade to the 15 retroactively but can’t go the other way, so starting with the 10 and realizing you need more won’t be a problem.
Classes and most locations/profs should already be available online and you’ll update that with your advisor at orientation. Books are usually much closer to classes. Always to go to class before buying a book as many times the books are optional, not needed at all or have special instructions.
The 10 was PLENTY for my son and all his friends switched to the 10 spring semester. The meal plan is so expensive its a way better deal to buy your own breakfast or have cereal in your dorm. Average cost per swipe is $14! You can get a lot of fast food options anywhere on campus for that. Try to save all your swipes for dinner.
Thanks @PengsPhils and @suzyQ7
@PengsPhils Does Northeastern have textbook rentals? My daughters go to University of Minnesota and if they waited until class started to get books, all the rentals would be gone and probably used books as well. If you buy them ahead of time, couldn’t you return them for a full refund if you find out you don’t need them?
The bookstore does have rentals and used books. You need to save your receipt and then you can return them to the bookstore within a certain time period. (They know kids drop classes at the beginning of the term etc.) Bookstore policies - https://northeastern.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BNCBTextbookFaqsView?catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=17555
TEXTBOOKS
A full refund will be given in your original form of payment if textbooks are returned during the first week of classes with original receipt.
With proof of a schedule change and original receipt, a full refund will be given in your original form of payment during the first 30 days of classes.
However none of this applies if you get your textbook on line - most of those sites do not have as favorable return policy.
At the end of the semester you can sell your textbook back to the bookstore (as long as the class is being offered again and using the same exact book.
Regarding the meal plan. Keep in mind the time when you won’t be on campus, like holidays, winter break, etc. 10 meals are plenty, especially if you make your own breakfast. If you work it out properly, the meal plan costs about $20 per meal considering you won’t be on campus every day. There are plenty of other options for that kind of money. How much is a coffee and bagel for instance? Do you want to eat off campus once in a while? No matter how you slice it (sorry for the pun), the 10 meal plan is the best option.
My daughter’s freshman move in day is Thurs., Aug 30th. We talked to the student attendants at East Village dorm during oreintation about the best way to get there for move in day. They suggested the Blue line from the airport to the Orange Line and getting off at Mass. Ave which is directly behind the dorm. They said traffic will be bad that week with many students moving in. I am curious if there are escalators (up and down) to the subways since we will be having two full suitcases and two carry ons with us. I also wanted to know the best way to buy tickets for the subway. In Seattle, escalators often run going up and not down and the elevators are not always easy to find and take a long time. Also, can you buy subway tickets online ahead of time?
Our flight gets in at 6 am so we are planning to go to our hotel first until the school opens. The students we talked to didn’t recommend the Green line because they say it’s slower and often breaks down. I currently have hotels reserved both along the Green Line and Orange Line so I would like to finalize my plans!
Also, any tips for moving in would be great! We are ordering items online and mailing it to NU. I called the NU mailroom and they said it’s not a problem and we should get our packages ok at Speare Hall. My daughter doesn’t have a mailbox number yet but, they said as long as we send it with her name, they will get it and hold it for her. I hope it all works out!
