asking for early decision based on current housing contract..

Would it be detrimental if I asked schools for early decisions because of a housing contract? My current school's housing is finalized on May 1st. After that date, cancellations will incur a $500 fee. I obviously don't want to pay that fee, but if it will hurt my chances by rushing a decision.. then I will probably just suck it up. any feedback?

I doubt they'll give you a response because then the other thousands of applicants might try to do the same if they allow it for one person, then they basically become a rolling admission school. May 1 is a Tuesday, so maybe just hope that they get everything out early (friday), then mail would probably reach you by Monday. Otherwise, I would seriously decide NOW about whether you would stay at your current school or the school(s) you applied to. That way, come May 1, as soon as you find out what school(s) you got into, you could call up the hosing dept ASAP and get it cancelled. My only last suggestion is to look into the details of the housing contract: my school's contract is binding once you pay/sign the contract in march (yes, march). However, the fine print states that if you are not going to be enrolled at the school as a full time student in the fall, only then will they refund your money. They might have the same policy as that, only you don't get fined.

alright, thanks for the info. I'll just wait it out and pay the 500 if I get in (the possibilities are highly unlikely though)
