ASSIST & Pre-req question! Please help, thanks.

Sorry if this has been addressed before. If it has, please direct me to it. Thanks!

So I want to double major (or at least have the alternate major option for TAP) in IDS and Asian American Studies. The thing is... The ASSIST for AAS has the whole "complete as much classes as you can for that major" thing and no list of pre-reqs to complete. I checked on the dept. site to see which classes I need to take and pretty much there is no potential community college that offers courses in it.

Is there anyone that applied for this major (or had another major with similar circumstances)? I looked over ASSIST and found that there were quite a few majors that had this option, if you could call if that.

I know I can still apply as that major, but does that make my chances of getting accepted into this major difficult?

What to doooo?

Just take classes that could potentially fulfill igetc and pre-req(even if you dont know if they will or not). If they don’t fulfill pre-reqs at least you will have shown relative coursework and probably knocked down some of the category requirements of igetc, maybe the humanities section?

the ids major is being phased out

therealist, that’s nice to know. (: But I think I’m majoring in IDS because I like it, not because everyone else is throwing it in the river. And plus, I never knew it was phased in. It was never really that popular.

And since IDS is mostly humanities courses - and I’m done with IGETC, I don’t know what to do. Ah this is hard.

i would call the department at the school directly, explain the situation, and ask for advice, only they will know the most beneficial path to take.

What is IDS?

Look at Stat Finder for UCs that should give you indication of what acceptance rates are.

PS even though your CC may not offer pre-reqs, look at local community college or even ones not close to you.

Back when I was applying, one of my pre-reqs wasn’t listed at any of the community colleges I was attending, i looked at the equivalent at another school…saw that it was called the exact same thing at one of the CCs i attended(even though it didn’t show up on assist as the equivalent) and took that class based on the name at the other school.

IDS is international development studies

if you want, you can just major in global studies, it has similar courses

this is the link to the global studies major

If they don’t list any prereqs on Assist.org, it’s because it’s probably an unimpacted major. No one asks too often, so they don’t bother to update it. You could just send the department an email and ask. Just finish your IGETC and a few classes that are obviously prereqs, and you’ll probably get in if the major really is unimpacted. I got into UCLA and Berkeley as a physics major missing 3 prereqs. I don’t know what the admit rate is at Berkeley, but the admit rate for physics majors at UCLA is about 70%. So, don’t sweat trying to fulfill ALL the prereqs. Only worry about that if you’re looking to transfer as an impacted major (like communications, 10% admit rate, ew).
