ASU Dorms

okay, well i just spent the last hour writing my opinion on each one of the halls, but the screen froze and deleted my entry. but i just wanted to say that i am currently a freshman, member of the honors college, employee at the front desk of the honors college and a resident of cholla. i LOVE living in cholla and can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about any of the halls because i need to know about all of them for my job. contact me if you have any questions because i would be more than happy to answer!

I am going to be a freshman next year at the Honors College. Obviously, Best, Hayden, and Irish halls are most convenient and are designed for the Honors College student. However, I was wondering what people thought about me living in Hassayampa/McAllister or Cholla. Are these building A LOT nicer than any of the honor's dorms?

Hassayampa is brand new.
Theres parts of Best and Hayden that were new in Fall 01,D was first occupant of a new Best addition room, very nicely set up with seperate front space for desks, then closets, then bed space.New Hayden rooms are built that same way. Individual air conditioning controls.
Cholla are apartment style, has a pool but they're pretty old.Used to be Grad housing before they needed more freshman housing. People do love living there though.

Cholla is not available to freshmen students this year. Just letting you know.

My son will be at ASU in fall of '08...there are so many dorms...any suggestions as to the best location and accomodations?

anyone know anything about mclintock/athena.

i'm an arch studies major in the college of design.

I am a student in the college of design... but not an arch studies major. I did not live in McClintock/Athena as a freshman, but I would highly recommend living there. It's close to the Design building as well as the rest of campus. Plus you live with many other people who have similar interests. In my opinion, it makes life a lot easier. If you choose not to live in McClintock/Athena, I would highly recommend getting involved with at least one of the design clubs like AIAS, Alpha Rho Chi, or any of the others. Any design major will tell you that having connections to upper level students makes your life a whole lot easier.

yeah that is great to have the design building nearby
the campus is giggganntic.

anyone know which dorm would be a more social dorm for a freshman or a more wild dorm on the tempe campus?

My son was accepted to ASU and we just returned from a campus visit. He will be studying civil engineering. FYI: San Pablo, not Manzy, will be the new engineering dorm next year. Even though he is waiting to hear from University of Maryland (his first choice) he signed up for San Pablo before we left. Since housing is tight, they recommended he put in his preference ASAP. I know it is $125 we might lose if he decides to attend Maryland, but it was worth the peace of mind. I want him in the engineering dorm where he can be with other engineering majors so he can be more focused.

Do NOT, under any circumstances, live in Manzanita. It's disgusting.

I've heard a lot of negative things about Manzanita. My friend's sister is a freshman living there...she calls it "14 Floors of Whores." I've heard it is not very sanity either.

If you require sleep as a human being, Manzanita would not be your first choice. If you are into all-night, every-night social things, by all means, go ahead. Otherwise, there is plenty of opportunities to have a good time, on your own time, at ASU, living in any other dorm on campus.

hey everyone, i was wondering if someone could fill me in with some helpful information. My buddy and I are going to be transfer students (sophomores) for the Fall of 08'. I, like many other people, was wondering what would be the best dorm to live in. We're both going to be in the W.P Carey School of business. We're just looking for something that is somewhat conveniently located (within 10 min walk) to our classes, dining halls and all that nonsense. We were looking at cholla. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

hey Mike I suggest Hassayampa Academic Village

Its specifically for the W.P. Carey and Liberal art school so I suggest that. Or you can live off campus probably more comfortable.

Since you guys are sophomores, I would suggest the Towers if you want to stay on campus. They are 2 bedroom apartments and each person gets their own bedroom. They are probably a little bit further then Cholla, but are better in my opinion. There are also a lot of off campus options. Vista del Sol comes to mind.... if they are still accepting students. It's brand new and on the south side of campus near the WP Carey school.

Yeah, me and my buddy were looking into Vista De Sol; the place looks like a god damn resort..very cheap too. We're just trying to feel things out becuase we're coming from New Jersey so we don't know too much about the dorms. If we chose to live in Vista De Sol would all our classes be within 10-15 minutes of walking? So your basically saying either go Vista De Sol or The Towers? If you could answer back i'd appreciate it. thank you

Cholla, Vista Del Sol, and the Towers are all within 10-15 minutes of everything on campus, although Vista del Sol is probably the closest to the WP Carey school. It's really just where exactly you want to be and how much you want to pay.

I think Vista del Sol may be full...I know some friends who had to turn in their deposit before winter break in order to secure their spot

Thanks for the help i appreciate it..we ended up applying to Vista De Sol and University Towers so we'll see what happens, by the way with Vista De Sol, the two person bedroom is it 675 each or 675 total a month?
