Atheists anyone?

atheist, former christian.

Guys, I don't think this arguement is ever going to be settled. You all have your minds made up in advance.

Besides, this wasn't a "debate religion and its value" thread. It was a "Are you an atheist?" thread. A simple roll call.

I know you are going to snap at me for trying to control your actions; after all, there's no rule that says you can't shout at each other (debate is the wrong word here) endlessly. Please don't take stuff out on me. I know already that this is borderline rude.

Can I make one request, though?

Could we try to back up our claims with a little third-party data, preferably linked to in your message? I know you all have it (because there's no way my CCers would make blatantly unsubstantiated statements), and it would help end the bickering. And help get your point across.

Thank you. And remember, if you could please not yell at me for this. (I'm stressed enough as it is, with ED decisions coming any day now.)

I must add that agnostics seem like pussies to me. Like undecided voters - ewwww. Seriously, pick one of the choices FFS - nothing would get accomplished if for every debate everyone was like, well i dont know, maybe.

Although if think about it in terms of hedging your bets or diversifying your investments, it makes sense. But agnostics just seem like tools to me. Either there is or there isn't, choose one to believe in, you cant believe in both, and we know from kerry that flipflopping doesnt pay.

^ No offense, but you seem like a tool for saying that. Agnostic people simply don't know if there is a god or not. Actually, agnostics make the most sense because we as humans can never definitively know if there's a god or not until we die. Agnostics are just as legit and atheists or those who believe in god.

Agnostic- The position that God is unknowable. NOT the position of indecision.

LEARN THE DEFINITION NOOBS

99% of the species to ever lived on earth have died right? Well how many of those species had religion, how many ever sacrificed themselves for a higher purpose?
Those species were not intelligent enough to even think of the type of questions that religion and science address.

-- Without religion, we wouldnt have any reason to be nice or loving, we might still be, but there wouldnt be any ultimate motive to act that way. Religion has definitly helped us get to where we are today. --

I never said religion never worked in the past. In fact, I do agree that it was a necessary component to beginning civilization. However, now that civilizations have become established, wouldn't you say that religion has lost its point? We now have morals, ethics, knowledge of good and evil, etc. now, so there is no more use in lieing to ourselves for the sake of tradition. Religion is pointless in todays society and it is time for it to be eliminated for good so that reason and logic can finally take over. The human race will all become better from its demise.

I like how (almost) all of your posts are ad homs. Consistency is a virtue.

(Or not...)

Please cite sources?

...please?

You want a true argument now? here you go.

You're not only getting logically slaughtered by Christians, but by agnostics and your fellow atheists as well. I haven't read ONE of your posts that provides any evidence for your stance.

How can I PROVE that Atheism is correct?
In the same way that I cannot PROVE that the flying spaghetti monster doesn't exist in this universe of infinite proportions, I cannot prove that there is no god for the same reason. We just assume the flying spaghetti monster to be BS, because it is BOGUS. You cannot prove that something does NOT exist.

On the other hand, my friend, you CAN prove that chickens exist, or even that dinosaurs once existed. What can we deduce from this? The only thing that can be proven is what is laid before us.

I cannot prove that there is no god, because it goes against all logical sense.
The burden of proof is on YOU!

But, you base your proof on "I don't have any - I have faith"
Well, using faith as a means of justification is, frankly, stupidity and ignorance at it's finest.

If I said that I believed in the flying spaghetti monster, and justified my belief by saying that I had faith, wouldn't you think that was a stupid form of thought? aka faulty logic?

Take a minute for that to soak in.

Good.

THis is the EXACT same way us atheist view theists. I really tried to lay it out for you from our perspective. Please, if you don't understand something, reread this post, it will really help to see where we are coming from.

I'm sorry if I offended you in your previous posts, but please take the time to read this. There is no way you can give a rebuttal.

You cannot prove whether there is or is not a God. I don't believe the "burden of proof" is on anybody. Why must we prove our beliefs to nonbelievers? Why is it worth the effort? Why can we not live and let live?

It doesn't matter if one is Christian, Atheist, Wiccan, Jewish, Hindu, or worships the giant spaghetti monster. We are not going to convert one another and all you are doing is getting into pointless arguments over the internet. An immovable object is hitting an unstoppable force. Just let it go. Again, ** nobody is going to convert anybody else here **.

I am done. Grow up and let this go. You are all wasting your time here.

^
The problem arises when someone insists that every single person who does not believe is doomed to be forever scorched by the flames of hell. I mean:

Imagine your entire life, with each happy and content memory replaced by a terrible, unending agony which claws against your mind and body, ripping gashes across your skin and tearing your blood from your flesh.

Add one more minute.

Add one more minute.

Add one more minute....

Then what the [expletive] are you doing here?
Get the [expletive] out of a thread entitled "ATHEISTS ANYONE"
You are the epitome of IRONY.

This is a reasonable POV. The problem is when an atheist says the facts are on their side. I think we can all agree that there are no facts. Absence of evidence =/= evidence of absence. People can draw their own conclusions and believe what they want to believe.

The difference between the spaghetti monster and God is that you won't find anyone earnestly corroborating the existence of the spaghetti monster. Nobody believes in the spaghetti monster because everybody knows the spaghetti monster doesn't exist.
Exactly. We KNOW that the spaghetti monster does not exist.
And the funny thing is, we have just as much proof of the spaghetti monster as we do for the existence of god.

So, by taking a "leap of faith," you actually are exercising stupid and faulty logic.

^Looks like you missed the first sentence of that paragraph.

-- The burden of proof is on YOU! --

Exactly. All I hear is that "Just because we can't prove that god doesn't exist, that does not mean that he DOESN'T exist!"

If you honestly believe god exists, please, show me. Show me concrete evidence that there is a divine supreme all powerful being. Once I see proof, I will believe. Until then, you are talking in circles to the point where I get bored and just give up this "debate".

And to whoever said that we shouldn't debate, here's a message for you: YOU don't have to debate. Some of us are really interested in the rationale of other human beings and what exactly makes them believe and live the way they do. I know I am quite interested in the beliefs of Christians, because I honestly don't see how someone can live their entire lives shrouded in a lie and be proud and OK with it. Give me PROOF of his existence and I will reconsider my position.

This one we can solve. :)

Constraints: Object cannot be moved, force cannot be stopped

Solution: Force goes through or around object.

And we have as much proof there is no God as the proof we have that there is a flying spaghetti monster. Therefore we are all stupid and all our discussions are pointless.

I'm going to have to agree. I think I should leave but I'm not sure I will.

It's so funny how Christians are content with having deluded brains. :) Cute, really, considering the majority of CC wants to go to Ivy's to expand their brain.

Ironic, yet funny at the same time.

King818, I completely agree with you; I'm an atheist as well and know exactly how you feel.
