There is a place to attach a resume - is that a good idea? I’d like more space to explain some activities but it will repeat a lot of info and not sure if that would annoy most AOs.
There is an Additional Information section on the app itself – could use that instead. Don’t repeat if at all possible. If your explanation doesn’t fit in that box, it’s probably too long.
They don’t need every detail of your life. Nor all about each EC. They read through apps quickly, don’t slow them down with extras and risk robbing time from other sections.
If something is an important EC, get it in the Activities section. “Important” includes what they want to see. How you edit can say much about your thinking and understanding.
Some schools actually specifically say do not include extra material that is not requested. So you should check the instruction for each school before submitting.
No, only if it adds something super meaningful that does not get to be included in your ten activities list and does not lend itself to the Additional Info section format. The admissions officer(s) reading your child’s file will not want to read the same list twice, in the activities section and in the resume.
There is now a place to attach, but that doesn’t mean it’s needed. In some parts of the country, GCs encourage the resume. But I think that reflects what they know local or state colleges will like. The more competitive schools can like to see you know how to edit, what’s important to them.
Thank you! I thought it seemed repetitive but wondered if anything “optional” was not really optional. I am not going to attach a resume.
Where is the place to attach a resume? I don’t see it anywhere under Common App tab, unless this is in a school specific question section?
The additional information section truly is optional (unlike the “optional essays” some colleges have). It is perfectly fine to leave it blank.
I am sure the adcom would not be happy in reading more unnecessary information.
