Depends on what you consider strong. Top merit award (Presidential scholarship) for out of state is $16,500. Departmental scholarships stack with the merit awards and vary but are typically small. My son who just graduated had the presidential but never received anything in addition. One of his in state roommates was actually getting a check for $2k every semester from the university because his scholarships exceeded the cost of attendance
For those of you receiving merit awards in your portal, did you have to apply through the AUsom application process? (I know you have to go through AUsome for other scholarships, but is it required for merit scholarships based strictly on stats?)
Thanks.
It appears to be based on stats alone when you applied. D was accepted last week and received an email yesterday with merit amount. She did not complete the AUsom app or any additional scholarship application.
My daughter was deferred as well. Her admissions counselor told her the average out of state GPA for the middle EA round of applicants (submitted early Oct, notified mid-Nov) was a 4.3. Very annoying because I am sure that many of the kids who were accepted likely won’t attend unless this is the trend this year across the board…
My son was accepted to Alabama as well! Also Ole Miss. Waiting on Tennessee as well.
So looking forward to making a decision. It still amazes me how Auburn can change so much from one year to the next.
Auburn NPC on their website also gave me an accurate amount of the merit that was offered after I entered D stats. Their jet price calculator seems to be accurate for what is actually offered at admission
D22 applied on 10/2, but our Auburn regional admission rep said they did not receive her transcript until 10/29. Her application will now go into the “December review”, and she will not receive a decision until “mid-January”.
According to Auburn’s published OOS merit chart, D22’s stats automatically qualify her for merit. We, therefore, considered Auburn a “safety” and a school where she could receive her admission this fall and feel confident while she waited to hear from her “match” and “reach” schools in February and March.
Now that I am seeing so many “deferrals” with stats similar to hers I am starting to get a little concerned. If she receives a “deferral” in January and has to wait until March to receive a decision, it just might sour her on Auburn enough where she might mentally move on even if she later gets accepted. That would be a shame because we visited Auburn, and she really liked it (I did, too!).
For those with kids accepted, have any of them received anything in the “snail mail”? We got everything by email, which is fine, but for some reason I thought they sent out packages in the regular mail as well (but not sure since we haven’t gotten anything yet!). TIA!
Yes, my son got his acceptance package in the mail a few weeks after the acceptance email and status change in the portal. There have been a lack of follow up emails, though, compared to other schools he’s been accepted to who email daily.
