Hello! I’m auditioning on Feb 6th and 7th and I was just wondering what exactly to expect (how intense the dance is, what is judged most, is there an interview, etc). Also, I was offered a scholarship academically but unfortunately Roosevelt doesn’t allow CCPA student to have academic scholarships so I was wondering what kind of talent-based scholarships they’re willing to offer; money is probably going to be a deciding factor for me if I am accepted.
Thanks!

Hello there!

First of all, the auditions are usually quite painless! Since you’re auditioning at unifieds, there will be a dance call on the SUNDAY before your audition, but I’m sure you’re aware of that. The song/monologue portion is quick and painless. The actual audition takes about 10 minutes, and is very relaxed.

The dance is not terribly difficult. The head of Musical Theatre, Luis Perez, teaches it and really does make it very fun. It’s a musical theatre combination. Dancers can really show their training off, but non dancers will be able to show personality and execute the steps just fine. Dance is certainly important here, but it’s not the deciding factor of you acceptance by any means, so don’t worry too much about it. Just have fun and do your best!

There is no formal interview, but you may or may not be asked a few questions by whoever is auditioning you. Just remember, this is the auditor’s chance to get to know you as a person. Don’t try to say what you THINK they want you to say. Just be yourself, and you’ll be totally fine!

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Break a leg!

Oh, and I forgot to mention scholarships! You are right in saying that we can only recieve CCPA scholarships, not scholarships from the University itself. It really just varies depending on the strength of your audition. Financial need is considered as well, but your audition is the main factor. Scholarships generally range from 0-50% of tuition (75% in rare, rare cases). I wish I could give you specifics, but it really varies from person to person!

Thanks so much!

I’m a senior at CCPA on a talent scholarship, and it gives me $8,000 dollars a year.
So I pay about $22,000 a year.
I also got a dorm grant (when i lived in the dorms) also of $8,000…so I only paid about $4,000 for housing and food…I deal compared to where now! :)

ouch. tuition is still sooo expensive. I assume you either had a college fund or use student loads to make up the difference for now?
I really wanna go Roosevelt; it’s just looking too expensive especially because academic scholarships aren’t applicable to CCPA students :/

aefitzMT- MY advice would be to wait and see what happens after you audition. You never know. Roosevelt ended up being my cheapest option for college (and just so happened to be my first choice), so it really just depends!!
