Hey there,

Are there any Aussies here who are thinking of applying to the US?

If anyone wants to talk about colleges, exams, interviews, whatever!
Give me a buzz :)

Cheers,

Why would a Australian try for a American Uni? U going for just the top few?

Some people in Pacific or Southeast Asia feel any university in the GO8 uni will beat any Uni in USA that is ranked 25 and below in the USNEWS overall ranking.
how true is that? With top Universities like Monash, UNSW openning campus everywhere are their Biz program better than.. lets say Indiana Uni-Kelly (just picked that as not many people there heard of it).

I would say it depends what you want to do with your degree ... Australian universities have a good rep in Asia and are much cheaper than studying in the US.

However if someone has money and its not an issue they may wish to go to the US just to be different and for the experience. There could also be a university in the states that has more resources in certain fields ... just like some universities in Australia may have better resources in other fields.

I guess if you can get into harvard that will serve you well anywhere in the world. I know an Australian who went to oxford. Its likely she would have still gone really well at a top Australian university.. yet she sure stands out when she goes for jobs.

I am trying to get in!!! got any tips??

Also willing to help out fellow Aussies Preferred method is probably private messaging, though. :)

And for everyone who’s bagging Australians who go to the US for undergraduate… some of my friends and I turned down the largest scholarships at all of the G8s to go to Harvard or Yale. Yes, you can get an outstanding education in Australia. Your education is what you make of it, and heck, I found it difficult to say yes to an American college and to withdraw here. But I think that places like HYP (and Oxbridge to a lesser extent - not as many ECs) offer opportunities that aren’t available elsewhere. It’s no surprise that half of our IMO/IPhO teams head overseas each year…

Well I’m born and raised in AUS, but am also a US citizen. And the reason why I am personally going over to the states to study is because their sporting industry (while it may be harder to get into) has a lot more money and prestige in it compaired to Australian sporting organizations.

Btw, to any Aussies who are already over there, did u go over any earlier that move in date to the states to buy all ur necessary stuff? Or is there some other option you took?

There’s another thread like this one! entitled: “International students from Australia applying to U.S Schools”. Check it out, if you’d like.

TrueBlue92 I’m going to be there a few days before Move In so I can buy most of my things!
