Many people on this board are exceptional students with (duh) excpectioanl SAT scores. Thus far, my scores are not bad and not good. I'm in the 500's in math, 600's in reading and 700's in writing, is that avarage? What is the avarage SAT score ?

I hate to say it, but you're below average on cc! :( (Great writing scores though) Actually, anyone with a sub-1500 math + verbal score is below cc's average. That's obviously because people who take the initiative to go on a messageboard about college admissions/tests/life tend to be high-flying overacheivers. Like the guy who said "OMG! I got a 96 on calc! Will MIT revoke my admission?!"

Don't feel bad, my 1350 (V:750, M:600) is pretty crappy compared to cc scores (but WAY above the national and state average).
I've seen several people on this board with scores in the 1200's and 2 individuals with scores in the 1100's and one dude with a 1060. My jaw would drop to the floor if I encountered someone on cc with a sub-1000 score, since those sorts of ppl. tend not to care so much about higher education.

Check out the following thread to find the average score on CC (so far). I brought down the average a bit!

I got a 1210 on the Jan test. 600v 610m

also, i'm asking mainly because a bunch of people at my school recently recieved their jan 22 SAT scores back and most of them got like 400's-mid 600's. THey're not dumb people either, most of them are in all my honors/ap classes. why such low scores? I guess it's cuz they've never had training on it?

yeah...I got 560 M and 630 V on the Jan. test, but I'm in honors/ap classes and stuff at a private school and my grades are really good. I did some studying for the test, especially on the math part (I got a 42 on my PSAT). How do I do so well in class but not on these tests?

The SAT I doesn't really test the topics you learned in school. And the math is just junior high level math twisted into something more complex-looking. Boghopper--you might do better on the SAT II Subject tests since you are in a lot of AP/Honors classes because you are able to learn and retain info well. Good progress on your math score, you could probably break a 600 on that section with additional practice.

Yeah, it's really sad that a lot of bright students are barred from the top schools because of a standardized test. But some top-ranked liberal arts schools like Mount Holyoke, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Sarah Lawrence, Dickinson, Bates, and Hampshire don't even require the SAT I, so not all hope is lost.

lol that is such a crazy average
1460 so far!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but voluntary surveys are always skewed. Generally, only people with very high SAT I scores respond. And the people who take the initiative to go on a board like this (where bragging is perfectly OK, lol :) ) tend to be very bright and motivated.

Also, from what I've heard, CC receives attracts a lot of "lurkers" who are too intimidated to post here.

actually i think the CC avg is much higher, considering most of the 1500s and 1600 haven't posted. Eliereth, congrads on 750V, i only got 600V (darn, disadvantage of being an immigrant :(, 5 years in english speaking country :()

Admissions counselors will forgive a lower verbal score for immigrants whose primary language isn't English. Newbyreborn...you did better on verbal than mot red-blooded Americans!

I think only half of cc is as it's image makes it appear. There are plenty of normal people, we're just intimated when everyone has a 1600. I officially have the lowest psat score from any current junior who has posted their score, so it's pretty depressing. So I understand why people don't post their low scores as much.

So what if you post your low scores? What do you have to lose? I mean, an Internet messageboard is pretty anonymous. I mean, I posted my 1350 SAT and none of the overacheivers here called me retarded or anything like that! CC might seem intimidating on the surface because of the frighteningly smart people that post here, but I've found that they're really friendly and helpful.

By the way, celebrian25, it's great to see another Tolkien nut on CC! :)

I thought the same thing when I saw your sn! :p

It's average

not avarage.

Sorry. it's bugging me.

meh sorry. I'm aware i spelled it incorrectly I'm just too lazy to change it.
