That is including math, reading, and writing. Are you just as surprised as I am!?! It says it on CollegeBoard. I could not believe it. Even my bad SAT scores are better than this. By bad I mean my scores are below the average students admitted into decent colleges. I was so shocked because in my school the average is 1800-1900s. I do not even know anyone who got lower than a 1500. I still cant believe it. Do you?

Can I? Yes, it’s an average, there’s aleays going to be people who perform exceptionally poorly

If you’re shocked because of the scores you see on here, then don’t be. Most of the kids on CC are very conscious of what they do and often you’ll see a post titled “AWFUL SAT SCORES” followed by a “I only got a 2200!”
I got a 1770 and even though I’m among the lower scores of my (score conscious) friends, I’m told it’s okay.
Most of the kids in the country take the SAT because it’s required for admission to many places, even if low.
Don’t be shocked. CC is full of the kids in the top 10% of their class. They don’t play around so they don’t represent most students.

school average = 2170

i can tell you we still have a bunch of people who have absolutely no idea what they’re doing.

I have a 1990. Only ~5 people in my class of 328 scored higher than I did. I scored higher than the valedictorian. It’s funny because I have a low gpa. (3.5 unweighted)

At my school, some people who scored in the low 2300’s were seriously considering retaking the test. I’ve noticed that there’s a definite score gap between those ranked in the top 5-7% and those outside of the top 5-7%. I myself got a 2390 (going into it, I knew I could take it again if needed, so I didn’t put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver – that definitely paid off); AFAIK, no one in my class has scored higher.

But do I believe it? Absolutely. My district average is around a 1600 (M+CR+W), and the district was so proud of besting the national average that they published a press release about our superior academic abilities.

You do realize it’s supposed to be 1500 median and with such a large sample size the mean is close to median.

Whatever.

I know people who got a 1000 composite, of course not a very intelligent person, also my class valedictorian only got a 1670. My schools quality of education is not very high (despite being known as the academic campus in the area). For example, my AP Physics B teacher quit after last year because of the amount of 1’s, and boy where there a bunch. My AP chem teacher has only had a handful of people get a 3+. Both, needless to say, are bad teachers.

OP reminds me of that time Buddha discovered poor people

haha, scored better than that (by a good amount too!) with two sections.

LOL our crappy public school matches the national average 1500 for all three sections!

Well, the NCAA has a pretty lenient eligibility criterion. If you have a 3.55 GPA or higher you need a total of 400 on your M+CR, or a 37 Total (add each section up) to get in. On the other end of the spectrum, a 2.0 requires a 1010 or 86.

Holy crap. That’s less than a 10 per test

I believe it. I have the highest score in my school right now with 2160. I go to a public school in a pretty rural area. Anyone who gets over 1800 at my school is considered very smart. About 6 kids out of 325 got over 2000.

This. Seriously, people forget just how closely correlated ACT/SAT scores are with familial wealth. On this site it seems as though everyone’s parents can just drop $20k/ year on a college. Yea that’s not how most people in the US operate.

Hey hey I think that’s pretty accurate. I got 1480 on my test and people at my school have gotten LOWER. We have high ranks too. (Top 12%) mostly my school didn’t study, because we had A LOT of projects going on, but still That’s not an excuse. Idk I guess, people aren’t good test takers, but just because you get a low SAT doesn’t mean you don’t belong in college. (Like some people believe.)

You have to remember that college confidential is not an accurate representation of high school students. I’m not surprised that the national average is a 1498. When I realistically think of SAT scores, a 1300-1500 is average, a 1500-1700 is fairly decent, and an 1800 + makes you a more competitive applicant.
