I called today and it is only open to those schools listed (A&S, Engineering, and Business). You are probably right that the holds won’t be lifted since you would have to go to your school to be advised. We will go to another session as we can’t make either one of the other 2 Honors sessions. All info is the same except, the Honors have more Honors info. They open up class sessions at each orientation so that shouldn’t be a problem.

It is perfectly fine to attend the regular sessions even if you are honors, the proportion of other honors kids there will just be less for those sessions. I was planning on going to one of the later sessions as I graduated in mid June, but I worked it out so I could attend a May one instead. As long as your college is available for advising during your desired Bama Bound session and you meet any additional requirements for that specific session, register for that section.

Just a FYI DD and I attended Bama Bound a full week before she graduated last year.

It worked well for her because she took 4 AP classes and the AP exams counted for her final; and if you had an A posted in a class you also do not have to take a final.

We had scheduled the Roll Tide on the River (rec dept) but ended up canceling because we would have had to stay a full day more. Plus I was concerned (only from personal whitewater rafting trips) that she might be black & blue from the experience.

Scheduling:

Also those in the know came with their classes written down. DD was not that prepared/ had not used Rate My Professor. After being closed out of most of her classes she muddled together a schedule.

After we came home and started looking at things a few weeks later she looked on line got the classes/ professors she wanted. It was really quite easy. And I would say if you get closed out of something check all summer…to make sure all spots have been filled.

Anyone have any experience with brothers/sisters participating in Sibling Orientation during Bama Bound? Have to do something with my 9th grade son those few days.

^ same here - same question, same 9th grade son!

No, we didn’t do sibling orientation, but it sounds like a full day for them. Lunch is included, but dinner is not.

The day also includes campus tour, museum tour, athletic facilities tour, and pool time at the Pool Complex.

[Tentative Schedule for Bama Bound Sibling Orientation - Bama Bound Orientation - The University of Alabama](http://orientation.ua.edu/sibling/schedule.html)

BTW…for your Bama Bound child…

There’s an option to pay about $20 more for your child to arrive a day early and spend 2 nights in the dorm. That makes things easier the first morning.

Thanks. I was wondering if that option was available. Do you know if it is listed on the registration form or do you have to special request?

I believe it’s an option on the online form.

FYI: Last year the dorms were extreemly chilly, we opted for the pkg. which included bedding…you may want to bring a blanket, just to be on the safe side…

There should be thermostats in the living room of the suites.

My kids brought a sleeping bag and a pillow and placed them on the mattress.

Yes…kids need to bring their own bedding to Bama Bound. Also, beach towel and shower towel.

I also have a 9th grader and was wondering about the sibling orientation. She has not been on campus yet, as we’ve been trying to do as many of the college visits without her because a) she doesn’t care b) we don’t want her to mentally cross off a school that would potentially be a good fit for her due to the reaction of her younger self and c) we’ve been trying to make it be about D#1.

Having said that, I think the sibling orientation sounds pretty cool. We’ll probably drag her to that, rather than wait to have her first visit be on move in day.

*b) we don’t want her to mentally cross off a school that would potentially be a good fit for her due to the reaction of her younger self and c) we’ve been trying to make it be about D#1.
*

LOL…

We didn’t include DS2 on campus visits with DS1. So, when DS2 was a freshman in high school, he LOUDLY declared that he wasn’t going to go to the same school as his brother. DS2 made this declaration many times. (DS2 had never been on a campus at the time, so his perspective was purely a K-12 bias where their schools were small and everyone sees everyone everyday.).

But, then Bama sent tickets to a football game during DS1’s senior year, so as a family we went (DS2 came, too). We all had a great time. Then, the following fall, DS2 helped us move DS1 into this dorm. After that, DS2 declared that he was going to Bama and didn’t want to apply anywhere else. But, I made him apply to 6 or 7 schools anyway… :)

When I look at the Sibling Bama Bound, it looks pretty well organized. It doesn’t include anything for the second day, but parents can take the kid to a few places that morning/early afternoon (perhaps checkout the off-campus hangouts or find out if the pool can be visited again.)

Another question about Bama Bound:

My daughter is looking at going to the June 1 & 2 session, however, I just saw on the Checklist tab that Football Tickets will go on sale starting at 8:00 a.m on Tuesday, June 1.

Will she have a chance to get tickets, because Bama Bound sessions start at 7:30? How does that process work?

We had the same problem last year concerning tickets. DD did the presign up on Rolltide
(I believe)…Then we put Dad who stayed at home the mission.

It requires a few simple steps…& he completed it in no time.

Also many people at Bama Bound were sporting laptops.

So you could log on right at Bama Bound if you bring a computer.

A laptop would also be handy when doing research for schedule…

If you wanted to bring a laptop, just about everywhere on campus has wifi (the network shows up as UA Public or UA ResNet Wireless Network, both will work).

I remember a few siblings showing up for the Sibling Orientation. It looks like fun and they get to meet other siblings. As for bedding, I just brought a big sheet and one of those airline-style blanket/pillow combos. Do also pack a towel and any necessary toiletries (toilet paper is provided). Chances are your child will be sleeping very little that night as they are meeting their future classmates for the first time, so don’t worry about bedding too much. Staying the night before for the extra $20 is a great idea. Don’t forget that parents can stay in the parents dorm instead of a hotel for an additional fee.

Now see, D2 has stayed in a dorm during Global finals of Destination Imagination (our state flagship actually.) And said to me in 4th grade “Mom, when I go to college, do I have to live in a dorm?” due to the moldy, dusty, noisy conditions in said dorms along with the awful dorm food. And repeated the question when she went back in 7th grade. So we tease her all the time about that being her school of choice.

Now when she sees the Honors dorms at UA…boy is her song going to change :)

Thanks for all of the great info! Just finished registering D for the June 1st and 2nd session. Also, registered our 9th grade son for the Sibling Orientation.

The additional night stay for the student is $24 and is included on the online form.

Good!!! :)

Is there a deadline we have to sign up by for our respective Bama Bound date? There is no limit on number of seats right?
