Bank Of America Student Leaders 2013

@smoqeet

i was on the facebook page that was made specifically for the 2013 Bank of America Student Leaders Program and one person has confirmed an acceptance in the Chicago area. You should try calling them.

You guys can check if anyone in your market got a notification through the fb group: <a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up;

We got about 90 members, so chances are there might be someone in your group.

Has anybody from Atlanta been notified yet? Apparently one girl in Cobb County, but I’m not sure? :/

Do you know where we could find a list of the markets? And how do they let you know you got in? Through email, mail, phone call, etc…?

@LetteCarm- the others from Atlanta on the fb group haven’t gotten news either! And neither have I :frowning: I don’t know if this means that the Atlanta market has already sent in all of its acceptances?

@xNaha18- Through other people’s testimonies, I know that BoA attempts to call you first to confirm that you are still interested, and then they send you the packet of info through the mail if you confirmed the address. Email confirmations have also been a popular way of communication.

Does anyone have a list of all the markets? I don’t know which one I’m in.

@kofiminnah
Thanks so much for the use information! Do you know if they accept 5 per county. For example im from one of the counties in nj so will they accept 5 from my county?

I think its five per market, so five per the NJ market

Has anybody else heard back from the Orlando market? I got the phone call a few days ago and am super excited! I hope to see you at orientation.

Hi guys. I’m in a huge dilemma.

I got the acceptance call/email today! I’m from the Silicon Valley Market and I can’t believe I got in.

However, I really wanted to do some other summer programs (accepted into Yale Young Global Scholars) and internships (at a really fascinating organization in Singapore) this summer as well, and I don’t know whether to stick with my original plan or go to BoA.

Suggestions? :(

BOA Student Leader program Pays YOU and is no less prestigious than Yale Young Global Scholars program where you pay $4500. No comment on the Singapore program since you didn’t say what it was.

Just got the internship for the Sacramento region! so excited and will hopefully see some of you at the Leadership Summit!!!

Has anyone heard from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area? If so, was it by phone call or email?

Hi! I applied to the Nashville market, but was not accepted. I am extremely disappointed, but am getting past it. Is there anyone who did get in?

Also, for those of you who were selected (you don’t have to be from Nashville), CONGRATS! Would you mind telling me some of your credentials? I am aware that this program is very selective, but I felt like I met the requirements and above. I have had 2 preceding girls get in who did the same program as me and even one who was less involved in the Nashville area. So, though I am sad, I’m trying to improve my application for next year. Thanks a bunch.

Is there a number we can call or email to inquire about our application status? It’s been a while (3 months) since the application deadline… :frowning: and I am trying to finalize my summer plans

started two businesses. One is called Today’s Readers Tomorrow’s Leaders (TRTL) and Youth Literacy Initiative (YLI). Today’s Readers Tomorrow’s Leaders (TRTL) is a nonprofit pending approval that I started during high school by myself. Youth Literacy Initiative (YLI) is both a volunteer and community program and soon to be legal corporation. The mission of TRTL (and basically YLI as well) is to improve education and literacy rates around the world for disadvantaged youth. Today’s Readers Tomorrow’s Leaders (TRTL) and the Youth Literacy Initiative (YLI) organize book drives in local communities and send the books to homeless shelters, hospitals, poor schools, and other institutions where disadvantaged youth reside in. We have collected over 800 books from our book drives. In addition, we send educational packets to children’s homeless shelters, and make audio-visual recordings of public domain books. We are in the process of making educational videos that teach the fundamentals of Math and English, establishing a pen pal program with schools outside of America, and translating the educational packets do we can send them to schools outside of America. We are also setting up literacy programs with schools outside of America. We have volunteers in over 22 states across the USA and we have some international volunteers in Japan and India. I started and hired some bloggers to blog about the company and about general educational issues and events. We recently received the Disney Friends for Change grant adn recognition from Youth Service America as well as local newspaper recognition [however i didnt put the Disney grant, YSA recognition in my BoA application]. We’re having a huge event on Global Youth Service Day (April 27th) in Washington D.C, so if ya’ll are in the area visit, if your bored. Im also in the midst of starting literacy programs in Washington D.C over the summer [One of the main reason why I chose to do BoA instead of this state department travel abroad scholarship]

Also, ive done 4 internships at the Smithsonian [Research assistant in the vertebrate zoology department and youth intern], National Building Museum [helped with a community service program], worked on the Mitt Romney campaign [IM NOT A REPUBLICAN AT ALL. I just wanted to be busy during the summer], and United States Korean Arts Foundation [ I am not korean. I was the only non-korean. It was sooooo awk]

Other volunteer experiance: Weekly volunteer at Jill’s House [helps mentally handicapped children], mentor in a mentorship program, apart of a community teen council (and hopefully will be VP next year), volunteered at a daycare where children had mothers who drank during preganancy, apart of the Fairfax County Youth Governing Board [havent really shown up to a meeting tho], and a few other volunteer programs.

***That was basically what i put on my application. Or at leats the things i remember. It was so long ago haha. I didn’t really expect to get in because I heard how fierce the competition was. Glad i did!

That’s just a few things (not everything) Ive done. Trust me, if you got in then you must be a damn good candidate. Most of the kids in the facebook group started nonprofits or outreach programs. If you got selected, then your in their ranks. Plus, the essays count for a lot

*******************I just saw that you said you didn’t get in. Im so sorry, I thought you posted that you did get in but that 2 other girls got in with lesser credentials and you were wondering the strength of the program. Like I said, the essays counted for a lot. And you can always apply next year! Not to mention, there are a ton of other internships that you can still do! Im sorry that you didn’t get in. Best of luck next year! ANd if you truly are a strong candidate, there are other internships that would totally take you

@sdfkljklsdjsdfk ,

You can still do other internships while doing Bank of America. One of the reasons why I chose to do Bank of AMerica over a prestigious state department study abroad to Russia that pays for everything and even gives you a small stipend was because I would be able to do other internships and programs if I did Bank of America. Its only 35hours a week for 7 weeks.
I schedualed 4 other internships, a hospital volunteer program, and im working more on my nonprofit and launching my new company all while doing Bank of America. If you do Bank of America, youll be able to do a lot of other things over the summer that will still be impressive. Plus, youll meet a lot of famous people. Barbra Bush was a speaker at the DC leadership week a year ago.

I was in your place. State department would be great on a resume. And I really loved it. But I chose Bank of AMerica because it paid (lol), it was still very prestigious, more flexible, and Ive already met a lot of kids that im contemplating of networking and working with. Everyone whos got into BoA so far has proven to have some special quality or project they’ve done. Being surrounded by kids like that is not only inspiring, but it definetly pushes you to be better and do better. One of the reasons why I started the BoA facebook group as because I wanted to start a nationwide outreach program or even a nonprofit with the kids in the group. And so far, all the kids in that facebook group are HIGHLY qualified. I would love to work with all of them.

Would you be able to meet people like that at Yale? Would you be able to have that same experience? I had a tough time choosing to. I wish I did the state department because it would have been more fun, but Bank of America has already started opening a lot of opportunities for me even though I still haven’t even started it yet! Not to mention, thier sending the kids in my market tickets to the DC nationals game (its where our orientation is at)

Also, ive been inspired by a good amount of the kids already in the facebook group. I cant wait to meet them in person and share and create new ideas!

Ok thanks so much @Keely613!
That gives me a much better look into the other people who got in. I feel very very underqualified now haha. I was very involved in my community, but I did not start my own non-profit or reached out to the international community (I organized a little UNICEF benefit concert, but that’s the extent of my international outreach)

Have fun this summer!
