What type of community service were you involved in and how many hours? Also can you give us an idea of what your application looked like to give pointers for next year.

Well I volunteered on the board of my local library for the past 4 years, I have been president of a volunteered animation club, I help out with kids in my local community on a weekly basis with Homework for low-income. Most of my hours came from Junior year. I think the essays are the biggest thing to be honest, cause while I did have a lot of hours, I had no where near a ton.
Accepted from a smaller market that I haven’t seen in this thread yet. I have volunteered about 1,000 hours in four years and am extremely involved with one organization. I also serve on three nonprofit boards, president of two service clubs, previously worked with the nonprofit match organization for my area (~200 hours), and have worked as an unpaid intern at another local nonprofit. For next year, I agree with jessen; take power over your essays. I spoke to how this internship would validate the work I’ve done as a realistic career interest. I think it’s also empowering to meet like-minded people who truly want to make our communities better. I think my passion for nonprofit work and this program really came through in them. I wish you all best of luck, and I can’t wait to meet some of you in DC this summer! Feel free to message me.

accepted and also want to add that you don’t need fantastic volunteering hours or start your own nonprofits to become a student leader… it’s all about your essays and what it really means to be a leader, not just how to raise money and do photo ops with kids in africa or something like that
