Do full B/K Scholarship receipients pay the $400.00 enrollment fee or is this part of the mandatory fees paid by the B/K Scholarship?

I have the answer to my own question above now:

Good news!!!

Full Banneker/Key Scholarship recipients do not pay the $400.00 enrollment fee. The system has been programmed with the full B/K scholarship recipients and it will allow you to continue enrolling without paying the fee.

Admissions has been more than helpful!!!

My financial aid page still isn't making much sense. It seems like they calculate the average transportation fee as part of cost of attendance, does that mean they give you that to for the full B/K scholarship?

Hmmmm transportation fee? I don't know anything about a financial aid page or the transportation fee. Are you thinking that they pay for the travel back and forth from home to school? I will explore.

Interesting question. It is part of their COA calculation...

Admissions does not know the answer to this question. You, me, and/or we will have to email Mr. Massey with this question. I was told he is the only one that can answer B/K questions regarding the scholarships.

The website for the Office of Student Financial Aid states the following in their Policy Statement for the Banneker/Key Scholarship Program:

"Please note that the Banneker/Key Scholarship does not cover the cost of personal expenses or transportation."

Sorry to interupt the thread, but Jewels you need to empty out your pm box.

Gina,
Ooooops............done.

Okay, I'll resend the message.

Anyone else get the full ride and has looked at their financial aid page?
My unmet need is negative, but when I go to "My Awards" the only thing listed is Orientation Fee.

Transportation fee? Do you want car washes too?

um, jewels_08 lives halfway across the country. It's a legitimate question, jomass. I know from previous posts that you're unhappy about the merit award UMD gave you, but no need to be snarky to those who got the B/K award.

'snarky?'; was actually just joking, not being sarcastic lol; but more seriously everyone should have a certain degree of a financial stake in their own education, don't you think?

Heading to Dartmouth ! Yeah!

Congrats on your Dartmouth acceptance, jomass!

Thanks! ///

jomass,

I wasn't asking the transportation question, gina was. I was trying to help find the answer. See that's what this site and this thread are for.........helping people.

I agree with astrophyscismom on the being bitter about merit to UMD. This is the Banneker/Key thread and from what I can tell you were not invited to participate in the Banneker/Key, at any level. I wonder if your negativity and entitlement came across in your essay as well.

Glad you're off to Dartmouth. Need help finding THEIR thread?

Gina,

When I spoke to the financial aid office yesterday regarding disbursement, etc. I was told not to worry about the financial aid page. They take care of everything being paid except the books. The book funds will be either deposited in your bank account (provided you give them the info at orientation) about two weeks before registration or mailed to your permanent mailing address. I guess I am confused as to why you are worrying about the financial aid at all.

But on another note...........you mentioned the orientation fee being listed as an award. Does that mean they cover the $160 cost of that too? I thought I read somewhere that the orientation fee was not covered. I'll check on that today and get back to you.

I thought so too. So I'm not sure how that's working.

Oh, and jomass thank you for that comment you left on my profile. It was very mature and really showed that you have a life outside of CC.

Gina,

As far as the $160.00 orientation fee goes, it is not covered under B/K. They will take it out of your book money and you can either leave things that way or pay at the Bursar the amount of the orientation so that it is not deducted from the book allowance.

The scholarships have not been posted on the financial aid post yet. This should happen by the end of the week.

I got the full B/K... I heard somewhere that you get a personal expenses stipend? Is this true? If so, how much?

Also, I'm not sure whether to do gemstone...
I'm thinking I'm going to double major in finance/accounting, so I'm not sure if this kind of research would benefit me. Also, I could graduate early if I wanted... but not if I did gemstone.

Thanks in advance.
