Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

How many of you have visited Barnard at this point? I’m starting to love Barnard more and more. Hoping to visit in September or October!

@ mdh625: I took an ACT prep class, but my pre-test score and post-test score were only 1 point apart and I ended up getting just about the same results on the actual ACT. I would say that the only advantage “studying” for the ACT gave me was that I was familiar with the format and I knew what to expect. My best advice would be to go to Borders or some cozy book store with a cup of coffee or something, find an ACT prep book, sit down and read through it. Most prep books have some pretty useful tips and the one I used had like 4 different practice tests and rubrics for each so you could see how you did. Find something like that and you’ll be set! :)

For your reference, I got a 31 and 32 on my pre and post tests (in my ACT prep class), then a 30 on the actual ACT the first time around. I actually ended up retaking it and I got a 32.

@bananaballerina you got to see the sytycd tour?? You’re so lucky!!
i got a 700 on literature (which I’m defintely using) and a 650 on math 2c (which is the 48%) I haven’t really studied for another one and I haven’t studied at all for the ACTs. Anyways does anyone have any advice on an SAT 2 that is relatively easy to study for and do well on?

^ I’m super worried about SAT 2s also. I’ve only taken one but I’m definitely not using it. So I have to take 2 before application time. ahh!

also, @bananaballerina: I second that you are so lucky you have seen the sytycd tour! :)

All of my SAT 2s aren’t too great either, that’s why I decided to take ACTs in September to make up for it. It was a very last minute decision and I ran out of practice tests X__X

Omg! So I went on a tour of Barnard yesterday (even though I went on a tour in Jan& last year) and I am more in love with this college!!! This time I took my mom and she said it seems like a great fit for me … now I really really want to do ED but it sucks that for HEOP you have to apply RD … darns!

bananaballerina: Thank you so much for the tip! I will definitely be using one of these vacation days to do that, maybe see if my local library has any books that I can borrow as well so I can take practice exams.

so i am working on the supplement and the answer to my first question is a whole page long (single space 13ft Times New Roman)… is this bad? (this is the why you lik Barnard question lol)

hi! i’m new here! i’m from China and i’m so glad to know that you guys want to learn Chinese!
i will definitely apply ED since i’m sooo in love with Barnard!! haha
i have been to NYC once and have already had an interview with the dean of the Admission Officer and she told me i really fit Barnard!!
anyway…one thing i’m worrying about is that not so many people here know Barnard. even some of my friends who are applying to colleges in US never heard of it…BUT!! i still love it!!
I really hope to see all of you on campus next year!!! wish we all can make it!!

Hi sujulove! :)

I am gladd you share our love for Barnard! I think Barnard is a well known school perhaps it is not talked about as much since it is an all girl school? Normally co-ed colleges are recognized more since they allow an opportunity for both sexes. But for the people that do know Barnard they seem to think highly of the wonderful liberal arts education offered there.

I reallyyyyy reallyyyyy want to go to Barnard and I am kinda upset i cant do ED (for FA purposes) because if I dont get in … well I will be heart broken! </3

Good luck to all the chicas applying! Hope you the best with the application process!

okay so question: I’m going to retake my SATs on October 9, ACT on October 23 and SAT 2s on November 6. Will this be enough time to apply to all of my schools by or around Thanksgiving?

MVale93: I believe so. Scores usually come in within 2.5 weeks.

That’s the same problem I’m having because I don’t want to send in my scores completely blind but I definitely want to take the ACTs again… Decisions, decisions!

I really love barnard. I will be applying for next year. I’m so happy!!!

I’m applying to Barnard too! (and ya, how do you pronounce it?? haha I was just saying bernard but I guess thats wrong? it feels weird saying bArnArd…)

after looking at all your stats, I’m not sure of my chances of getting in, but i want to go SO BAD!! i would never have applied to an all girls school but this seems perfect. its in nyc (best.city.ever.) and looks so perfect! a pretty, small school in the middle of a HUGE city! (and the affiliation with columbia is a big plus too.) my only worries are that the girls won’t be nice and that it won’t be easy to make friends. I’m from the south also, and I’m pretty smart, but I’m also worried people will judge me because i’m not from the northeast and stuff…first, I want to get in because it seriously seems like my dream school, and second, I want to make sure everyone there is nice and that it will be a great as i expect. everyone on here sounds so nice though, so if we all got in that’d be great!!

oh and I’m interested in languages, history, english, etc. i’m pretty good at math, but i don’t like most math classes I’ve taken besides stat, and i only like certain sciences (i.e. environmental science and bio is ok too. i’m just not a chem/physics person at all.)

what sat subj tests are you taking (or have you taken)? I can’t decide which to take and I only have 1 chance so I don’t want to do badly! oh guys, I hope we all get in!! that’d be so fun!

I’m interviewing tomorrow! I’m so excited! :D

hi lorrainedelis :D!
Have faith! You probably will get in with such interest for Barnard! If you think your stats arent so high then really focus on ur personal statement, short answer and barnard’s supp bc they really focus on these portions of your app.

BTW the students that ive meet from Barnard tend to be very sweet girls so dont worry about making friends, plus when your living with 2,000 other girls (in addition to the Columbia undergrads!) you are bound to find a group of people that are just like you!

Take sat 2s that you believe you will do well on. If you like language, history and english and are considering to major in one of those subjects; then taking 2 sat2s from those subjects would be great. Perhaps Lit, and a Language would be easier for you since there is not much time left to review for a history sat2.

Just my two cents, i hoped my advice helps!

@KaiserinSisi : how did the interview go? :)

thanks mdh625! ah I hope we all end up at Barnard. It seems so fun! I guess in a few months we’ll know! :)

Has anyone sent in their application yet for early decision?!

HI!! (im really excited right now!)
So did anyone apply & got accepted to the Barnard Bound program?! Its next week& im soo excited! It would be nice to meet fellow CCers (and perhaps future classmates!)
