Hello! I’ve been interested in Barnard for almost a year now-- as of right now it’s my top/dream school. I love that Barnard’s like a small community within a huge metropolis, and I don’t think the atmosphere of New York City can be beat.

I’m also looking into Smith, Bryn Mawr, Rice U (just because it’s close by), etc, but Barnard is definitely my #1. It’s probably just me being superstitious/crazy, but there have been quite a few signs in the past few months that Barnard and I are meant to be!

Oh, also wanted to add I’m interested in anthropology, cultural studies, and possibly even archaeology, but have not much of a clue as far as careers go.

@neutralmilk I really like C.S. Lewis as well! So far I’ve read the Narnia series (although I was in like… 4th grade, so I don’t think that really counts haha), Mere Christianity, and The Screwtape Letters, and I have a whole bunch of other books I haven’t read yet.

Harry Potter is amazing as well, although I haven’t read any of the books in a REALLY long time. I remember being in 5th grade and daydreaming about what I would do if I were a witch who went to Hogwarts. (:

This being a Barnard thread and all, I feel like I should list a whole bunch of classics as my favorite books. But I’ll be honest and go with John Green I haven’t read his latest book yet but hopefully I’ll get my hands on it sometime this week since it’s spring break for me (although I really should study for AP tests instead). As far as more “serious” books go, I really loved Fitzgerald’s writing in The Great Gatsby :]

well just like rainbowrose i havent read for pleasure in such a long time sniff sniff im actually a book lover (who never really says a book is bad lol!) hmmm but maybe one of the coolest books ive read (in class) is Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

here is a new question: what is your favorite dessert? lol
for me its… BROWNIES <3 :D

Hello young women. My D graduated from Barnard, class of '09. I’m here if you need any questions answered. PM me because I don’t read this thread because it seems private and doesn’t need parental intrusion. Good luck all of you.

Ohh man, tough question seeing as I practically live off of sugar and carbohydrates. I’d have to say…hmm…homemade croissants with guava jelly (if you’ve never had it, you’ve never lived).

Slash all you HP fans out there, I hope I’m not alone when I say that I’m STILL WAITING FOR MY LETTER FROM HOGWARTS. 11 birthday= quite possibly the most devastating day of my life. denial alert

@neutralmilk Ironically enough, I’ve been reading Lewis more because he was bffls with Tolkien! Hoorah, Inklings! Also, LOTR is definitely worth another read through, Fellowship is a bit slow in my opinion so just push yourself until you reach the epic-ness of Return of the King.

Oh gosh… so many choices… I must say cheesecake is definitely up there, but I absolutely love LOVE Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream. YUMMMM!! haha

haha! you girls are funny, i too was upset when i never recieved my letter to Hogwarts! i would do anything to find platform 9 & 3/4 and have my own owl >:)!! you know what college looks like Hogwarts in the US? Byrn Mawr College! i randomly saw a youtube video of school & i was lik IS THIS HOGWARTS IN DISGUISE?! lol :p

Shmeepo (sry, what’s your name??), that’s so great! I’m a part of the Christian Fellowship at my school, and the other day, I introduced a type of board game (think Candyland) where you move forward if you correctly answer a subtle-type question from Screwtape Letters.

I’ll have to continue with LOTR, then!
Has anyone picked up Girl With a Dragon Tattoo?

@liv: I’ve heard soo many people talk about Phish food but never had it. It makes me think of those little flaky things that you put in fish bowls though. :/

I did the Brown program last year
I’m FLIPPING out right now because my goal was a nice mix of 4’s and 5’s but I found out if I want to have ANY chance at Intel with my sucky SAT scores I need all 5’s UGHH alsfkjlasdf hate research can’t wait for when I can do it for the sake of doing it rather than for competitions. I’m considering not entering Intel and just doing Siemens since theres another junior in my lab which makes for Intel conflicts and when we split it up our papers will both probably be sucky haha (we can do Siemens as a team).

i dont noe much about researching competitions, but y dont u try 4 nysef? 2 girls in my school went all the way to internationals! i think dey won 4th place or something… dat was freshmen year i dont remember.
dont put urself nder too much stress that isnt good! if you dont get all 5s (which is difficult to get!) have a backup plan, try doing Siemens instead if you feel like it wuld work out… just my 2 cents :p

I do LISEF and NYSSEF too :). I made it to the lightning round of NYSSEF which was pretty cool… I guess I got a free USB key lol. Most seniors in my school do both Siemens and Intel but maybe I’ll let my partner do Intel rather than trying to write a cohesive paper for Siemens and then splitting it up for Intel.
