Barnard Chances. Yes . . . another one, sorry!

I’m applying to Barnard as a transfer. I’m currently a second semester freshman majoring in English at a state university.

My current GPA is a 3.6, and should average out to a 3.8 by the end of this semester if I maintain my steady grades. This semester I’m taking two introductory level classes (required), 1 intermediate, and 1 advanced course. I had to drop a class this semester because it turned out to be mainly a senior level course, and I had very little background in the subject. I’m really afraid that this will hurt my chances.

I have experience travelling abroad (Italy and France) as well as 20+ hours a week piano (studying for about 13 years now). I recently won first place in a writing contest for HarperCollins publishing and am having a chapter in an e-book published by them. I’m a contributor to the literary magazine and participate in choir. I also sing and play (organ and piano) at Church when I’m at home.

Any input would be reallllly helpful. I want to get in so badly, but I’m just afraid I might not cut it.

I would be inclined to take you if you had an ACT or SAT that validated your good work at the state university. You've certainly shown the dedication and industry. The standardized test would not need to be super high. My guess is low 600s would be sufficient.

Alright, thanks - that helps a lot. :D I'm considering taking the SAT II's over the Summer if I don't get in for the Fall semester. I usually do pretty well in English. I got about 670 in Verbal and 610 in Critical Writing, but my Math is, well, not even worth mentioning. I am a horrific mathematician. I am counting on them to judge me for my college work, though.

SATs and that class I dropped are my biggest worries, I think.

Alright, just one more request. Would anyone be bored enough to take a look at my essay? I'm wondering if you can get enough of a sense for my personality.

I'd be willing to take a look at it!

Thanks so much! Should I PM it to you, or would you prefer that I send it in an e-mail?
