Barnard College RD Class of 2022!

Accepted! Yay!

Accepted after deferred! OMG!

@otrastudying thank you so much you to dear! I hope you have been accepted somewhere fingers crossed for you :x

I was just waitlisted by Barnard. I applied to Columbia and now I can’t help but dread March 28th. I feel like if I can’t even get into Barnard, how would I have a chance at Columbia? Does anyone here know of a case where a student was rejected/waitlisted by Barnard but accepted at Columbia? Or any other information that may put me at ease for the next 5 days?

A little bit about me:

I’d like to think I’m a good student. I won’t get into my whole profile and I know GPA and ACT aren’t the only factors of an application but my GPA is a 97 unweighted and I have a 35 on my ACT (36 English, 35 Math, 35 Reading, 35 Science). I’m a member of multiple Honor Societies, received a prestigious award from my school as one of the top 10 GPAs in my class (not sure of my exact ranking, they don’t disclose), and I participate in many extra curricular activities as well as community service organizations. I took 7 AP courses and I am somewhat of an artist. I play the guitar as well. I also have stellar recommendations (and I was in a summer program at Columbia this past summer, so two recommendations are from there). That’s (academic) me in a tiny nutshell.

Yes, i know of people who were not accepted at barnard who got into columbia-- theyre literally so so different. Although columbia may seem harder to get into, that isnt really the case for everyone… theyre looking for some diff things/a different fit. Id say for now to put down anything college related and just relax-- youve done your part/ everything you need to do and now its just waiting

Waitlisted. A bit disappointed because I felt like I was a really good fit for Barnard, but oh well. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I’m sure everyone here will end up where they’re meant to be<3

D was accepted. It’s her dream school, but as a parent hard because she got huge scholarships at two other schools and nothing at Barnard. @collegereject428 yes, definitely some get into CC but not Barnard

@moxi99 Hi! I’m just curious around what day you sent in supplemental materials after being deferred, if you did send in any?

@Happytoapply – as you know, Barnard offers need based aid only, so no merit or huge scholarships to be had. Just fairly generous need-based aid for those who qualify. It sounds like your daughter has a lot of great options & acceptances to choose from.

When do financial aid notifications come out?

Yes, we knew that going into it. But we’re not rich, just saved a little too much yet not enough to cover it

@xlhx33 The site says Monday at 9:00 AM via the Financial Aid Portal!

@Happytoapply congrats to her!! You must be so proud! Some difficult choices ahead, but hopefully choosing between awesome schools and awesome scholarships should be the toughest of her life decisions! Wishing you guys the best of luck!!! She will do big things in the future, I’m sure of it.

ACCEPTED!! So excited!

Hi guys - I just wanted to ask, does Barnard inform you which major you were accepted into? I was accepted for RD 2022, but the letter in the portal did not mention which major I was accepted into, which all my other unis do. I applied for Economics as my 1st choice, pre-engineering (3/2 engineering program) as my 2nd, and pre-business as my 3rd choice via the common app.

@chlover – Barnard acceptance does not include a designation of major - you would declare your major sometime after you are enrolled, during your first or second year. If the common app form has a place to select majors, that would have given Barnard an indication of your interest-- but does not impact your choices once you get to college. The process of declaring a major does require that you work with your college advisor. This is standard practice for most LAC’s.

Oh okay thanks for the info! @calmom

D waitlisted, which is discouraging. But she wants to pursue it and is already working on her letter. Barnard is a top choice for her.

@meenat99 Hi! Yes so after being deferred I sent in a letter like a week after finding out. I sent in three other recs and a video I made at the women’s march in January. From December to January I sent materials in. I always knew that Barnard was my school since sophomore year so I tried really hard and pursued it. Best of luck to you!

Anyone know about admitted students days? My daughter’s off doing one of her activities, and I’m trying to organize April!
