Barrons ACT Practice tests?!

They are outrageously hard..I noramlly get a 34 on the princeton review/ real act prep guide and on these im getting 26s...Are they not accurate or what's going on? Which tests should i use that are most similar to the real thing.

yes they’re hard (i took them too), but the prep is good for you; doing harder problems will make the real thing a breeze, no? :D

i returned it because i got so ****ed off at how i was doing. i dont think they help because its not like the act. they ask completely different questions. just bcuz u do somtin hard doesnt mean it will help bcuz its completely different. i think…

That book is just so wronggggg…I got a 36 on the June 2011 ACT and that book was giving me low 30’s and 20’s. Like you said, the type of questions that the book gives tend to be inaccurate. I don’t advise that this book be used.

Barron’s is known to be hard in general. I actually think I’m going to buy the book now. I much prefer to prep with harder material, but that’s just me :).

^ That’s a misconception. Artificially difficult problems don’t help; problems that will never show on a real test can’t help you, if anything it’ll hurt you because you’ll be looking for tricks and things like that don’t actually exist.

Kali-Please don’t buy it. The questions are often not even the way ACT would write them. Many concepts that will never show up on the ACT are there as well. When you take a Barrons test, it will not “feel” like a real ACT. I took a couple and they did not help me at all, as it was almost a different test. If anything, it just discouraged me.

@Dusterbug I’ve actually prepared like that before and done well because of it.

@sa I appreciate your concern. However, I actually try to avoid prep material that feels like or is easier than the real thing. It’s more of a confidence booster thing as I’m taking the test.

Again guys, this is just how I… like to study. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it though. It’s certainly not for everyone.

Eh, I think it help. It freaked me out before the test, but afterwards I felt great! It definitely gave me a lot of confidence during the test.
