I want to major in business, preferably accounting.

I was deciding weather to go to Baruch College in NY or Northeastern University in Boston. I live in NY so the tuition for Baruch will be less than $5,000 a year as opposed to $35,000+ at Northeastern.

However, I want a job making lots of money after school and Northeastern has the Co-op. I also heard that Baruch College gets you jobs while your in college too.

So its between Northeastern University or Baruch for Business. If i had all the same stats and all, which school would they prefer.

reemy98, are you asking a trick question? If you are serious, you have to be kidding. Lets see: Less than $5,000 per year in tuition vs. $35,000+ per year, both with strong alumni connections. ...hmm , let me think about it for a second..... BARUCH of course! Take Baruch and NEVER look back. It is amazing connections. It is located in NY ,which due to its location and reputation, attract many interviews by employers.

Baruch has MUCH stronger connections. It is the largest business school in NYC, with the largest number of alumni, the largest number of internships, and the largest number of work opportunities.

yea but other people i talk to ( i get varying responses) say go to northeastern because it is held in higher regard and is ranked higher in the nation.

Thus, leading to a better job?

If tuition money wasnt an option (lets say i got a full ride to both), which one would be better?

You don't need to even think about it. If money is an issue, regardless of what major in business, Baruch. It is an excellent business school! Both schools are excellent, but neither is Harvard, so save your family's money and your money and go to Baruch! Only question I have is housing? Will you commute from your family's home?

If you got a full ride, and money were not a consideration, I think you would need to sit in on classes, talk to professors, and decide if you prefer four years in NYC vs. Boston. It is really tough to decide. I would pick the school that would be a better fit (academically, socially, etc.). If you want a traditional college experience, then NEU. Without a full ride, unless your family had millions and the money did not matter at all, Baruch.

well if i go to Baruch i will be really close. one train ride away. so i will be commuting and if i go to Northeastern i will be four hours away, but dorming.

This is a really tough decision for me. I just want to go with the better deal and better school, so that I can have a better job and more connections to any job (in the business industry) that i want.

regardless of tuition, college experience, people, and location..all i really want is the better school. The one that would get me a job that i would like (that pays well too hehe =D ) in the field of business.

reemy98, If you are not wealthy, and you do not have a full ride, please consider the finances. This is a lot of money that you are talking about. Regardless of the school you choose, you may regret your choice later on, or never look back again. It depends upon the individual. Opportunities are going to be available for a good student at both schools. I really don't think that there is a "best" here. There might be a best fit. That again, is an individual decision. You must apply yourself, and find all of the opportunities wherever you go. JMO.

Just editing to add that there is a best for an individual. Some really want to be on a campus and dorming. Some want to live at home because of a parent who is ill. Some are looking for a particular club/sport. For many families money is the first consideration. It is really individual. Just remember that both of these schools have very good reputations. The decision is an individual/family one to make. Don't let someone who does not know you, on a message board, decide where you should go.

I think that Baruch is a well known college in the business world. Only you know the pain that your tuition is costing you and your family. I think that you and your family need to make this decision together.

If you want to go into accounting, go for the best combination of good school, and cheapest school, because for accounting, it doesn't matter where you went as much as other business majors.

Reemy, you aren't listening. Northeastern does NOT have a better reputation or more alumni or better connections than Baruch! Say that five times. Yes, both are NOT Harvard or Wharton;however, reputation wise, Northeastern is about the same with Baruch actually having the edge in connections (especially among NY employers), in my opinion.

Thus, for 35K per year,Baruch wins out ,,.......hands down! Now if you want to stay at Northeastern, paying a LOT more, due to your perceived bias in reputation, go for it. You have heard what virtually every other person on these boards has said.

i know that but in the rankings and stuff Northeastern university always seems in a better position on the list.

Also, Northeastern has the co-op which Baruch does not. And good work experience and a resume is what i need to gain a competitive edge, right?

I once talked to an accountant and he said that if 2 people had the same resume and everything, but one went to NYU and one went to Baruch, he would choose the one from NYU, just cause its NYU.

I know Northeastern is not NYU, but isnt it comparible?

This is just a VERY difficult decision for me. I just want whats best

Also, someone said that it doesnt matter where u go for accounting. But what if i want to do Economics or Finance or
something, is Baruch still good for that?

NOT TO MENTION NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY WAS RANKED #1 IN JOB PLACEMENT IN THE COUNTRY!!!

Baruch is better on virtually all counts. More job opportunities, more internships, better alumni networking, and (for future jobs) better city.

And, put $100k in your pocket in savings, and you've got your own business launched.

This is really a non-issue, and if you are finding it a difficult issue, it is because you aren't learning very much.

Do yourself a favor, bud, and stop worrying about the rankings. Just because one's school is ranked lower than another doesn't mean the other person is going to fail at life and end up homeless...

Also, NEU isn't remotely comparable to NYU.

I would also agree with most people...though NEU is my top choice and I love it to death.. You'll be saving a ton of money for a school that will help you probably just as much in the long run.
