another thought on the printers, i'm probably going to wait and organize it with my roomate(s). no sense in having 2 or 3 printers if we can share the cost of printer and ink by buying a wireless one. any thoughts on this?

wireless won't work. I have one but the software on our computers denies Ad Hoc. Nice attempt, but it won't work here.

Also, who takes it when you move at semester or at the end of the year? I highly suggest having your own.

I just use the squadron printer...it's fairly reliable, usually the only problem I've had with it is that it runs out of paper pretty quick.

Do all of the squadrons have printers, or just some of them? I only saw 2 when I was there for Orientation. Or are they usually kept in the squadron rooms?

every squadron has one, as far as i kno. but even if that one doesn't have paper and you don't ahve any to add, you can always print from the computer lab on the 4th floor in the library. they have color and b&w. a personal printer is just nice when you're in a cram or too lazy to go to the library and you need color

"a personal printer is just nice when you're in a cram or too lazy to go to the library and you need color"

gasps
He said the L word! (Lazy)

Seriously though, do most people not have personal color printers? Do you not really need color that often? Or does it depend on the classes you are taking?

Just out of curiousity, how are we going to wake up at 4:30 every morning without an alarm clock? I don't know about everyone else but I will never wake up without an alarm clock. Do the cadre come and yell at us to wake us up?
For some reason I find this to be a humorous mental image. However, I have a feeling BCT is not going to be humorous when were actually going through it :)

Don't worry, between reveille and your cadre, you won't have any trouble waking up.

mslicon,
I saw this post from you and as a mom with a cadet on The Hill who has generously shared some of the BCT experiences with us, I just had to post back to you (after I finished laughing so hard it made my day) - anyway, just wait for BCT! You will know then, why, you won't need an alarm clock or a watch. And, lol again, you will be awake at 4:30 am!!!!

lol. this should be exciting. i will be greeted in the morning by reveille and the cadre's "smiling" face.

WAIT A MINUTE! The reason for getting your own printer is to avoid getting grief from the guy who mans the desk where the squadron printer is. 4-digs get pretty abused from those guys. 2010 -- pls correct me if I'm wrong about this!

"4-digs get pretty abused from those guys."

Really? I'll have to keep that in mind...

It's really a hassle to walk down past the CQ (major gathering place for upperclassmen) in order to pick up the paper you just printed. Often times, you have to make 2-3 trips if there is no paper, ink's gone, etc etc.

depends a lot on the squadron too. during ACQ or during class time, there isn't really training. yeah you have to greet, but as long as you do that you won't be bothered. and the 3-digs at cq don't hastle you. they just want you to get away so they can study or what not.

Haha- I am in like the worst squadron for 4 degree training. And yeah, I guess you all do have valid points about the 3 degree at the 'Q, but I guess it's just personal preference. I decided I could just gut it out and mumble some names for the times I needed to print stuff...
