Well, feeling like a complete moron, I failed the UC Analytical Writing Placement exam, while my twin brother, who is just as competent as I am passed. I have some questions considering the Basic Writing class I have to take to satisfy this requirement.

I'm attending UCSD for the Fall 2009 quarter, Sixth College. I have some questions considering registering for my classes. I understand that I have to take the "CAT" curriculum for a year, however, does not having this requirement fulfilled jeopardize my enrollment at Sixth College?

Also, I am wondering If I'm able to register for a community college, and take an English composition course, and fulfill it that way? As it seems, I'm able to take classes this summer at the actual campus, however, I'm not able to register on my tritonlink.

Also, I'd like some information on the actual class, if I have to take it during the fall quarter, how long is it? How many times a week do I attend? Am I able to attend the class on campus? Or do I have to drive to some random community college nearby?

Thanks.

Any information concerning this topic would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn’t jeopardize your enrollment to Sixth College, the CAT will just take a bit longer to complete since you have to take a class for writing. The writing class is at UCSD, i’m not sure when or what time the classes are since none of us are able to register yet.

If your community college offers the writing class and its not too late, take it and then give transfer it over to UCSD.

The course is 10 weeks as any class I assume. Key word assume here.

yeah thanks, I contacted the writing program at ucsd, they said I can take a course at one of my local community colleges. It requires a prerequisite though, a placement test I have to pass. So hopefully I pass that o.O…

It’s called SDCC 1, and its a pass/no pass, no credit class. A few of my friends took it, and it was always held near the Matthews apartments/sixth college res halls (lucky you!) (we’re from Revelle, so the walk was literally 20+ minutes each way >:O) Anyway, you just write a few essays/write short responses, etc, it seemed kind of pointless

I don’t think you should worry about the CAT sequence; you will only fall behind by one quarter if you take SDCC at UCSD.

If you want to show your competency, you could try taking the ACT/SAT in the fall, and use one of those scores to pass out of the entry-level writing requirement.
“30 or better on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; or
680 or better on the College Board SAT-II Writing Test; or
680 or better on the College Board SAT Reasoning Test, Writing section;”
[Analytical Writing Placement Examination](http://www.ucop.edu/sas/awpe/index.html)

I didn’t take the writing test since I’m out of state (aren’t the tests proctored in California?) so I took the ACT and scored a 32 to pass out of the entry-level writing requirement.

Damn, another class. This isn’t helping my schedule at all.
