Basketball = 2/3 AP classes

The main dilemma I've been having with my senior year schedule is deciding whether I should play basketball next year. For the past 3 weeks, I've been leaning towards quitting and thought about classes that I would fill up for the 2 periods/classes that basketball takes up.

So, 2 of the 8 classes is when I have basketball. Also, it's counted as a regular class, so it lowers my GPA a little, and I have to work harder for the rest of my classes. Today, I talked to my counselor about the classes I would replace for basketball if I quit next year.

I'm thinking about taking AP Statistics for one of the periods, and for the other period, I'm thinking about starting off the year in 1st semester with AP Art History and switch it with AP Psychology in 2nd semester. I'm not too happy about quitting AP Art history in 2nd semester, but I really want to take AP psychology..

What would the college admission officers think when they see two periods of basketball my 9th, 10th, and 11th grade schedules and then all of a sudden, they see 8 AP classes in my senior year? Would I seem like the typical Asian, who decides academics and GPA are more important for college applications?

PLEASE give me advice! I dunno what to do!!

This year a couple of my friends quit basketball, but not quite for the same reasons. I stayed on the team, but listening to their reasons, I would say NOT to decide on whether to quit basketball or not on what colleges would think. How would you personally feel if basketball was eliminated from your life? It’s been a big part of who you are for the past three years, and if it won’t make much of a difference to you, I’d say do it.

My friends didnt get much playing time, which was one of the reasons they quit. But I’m not so sure about your situation.

Do what you think is right for you, not what the colleges think is right. That’s what I’ve learned this year in admissions!

GOOD LUCK!

I took 6 ap classes my senior year and also played on varsity basketball team for 3 years. In the end packing on a few gpa pts won’t really change much. I always wish I could go back to playing. I miss it so much. I don’t think you should quit, unless you hate the game.

Stick with the basketball, don’t lose that - you’ll regret it.
