Baylor College of Medicine

Baylor College of Medicine is ranked #13 in the country. It is private. It has nothing to do with Baylor University. All of its peers have tuitions that are over $30,000. But its tuition is only $6,550. It sounds too good to be true.

So how is it possible that it is so much cheaper than its peers? Anyone have any idea?

no one knows?

Tuition for Baylor if you are a Texas Resident is 6,500 (~16,000 with books and fees) and for out of state it is 19,650 (~29,000 with books and fees). I don't know if that clears anything up. I think some of the UCs that are ranked around Baylor are around 10,000 for tuition (i don't know how much all together). you are right though that for a school of that caliber, Baylor is quite cheap especially for a private university.

According to BCM, the reason why there is such a low tuition for Texas Residents is that BCM and Texas "entered into an agreement that allows BCM to offer legal residents of Texas the same tuition rate as state-supported medical schools."

Basically, you're attending a private med school at the price of a public medical school.

That's pretty fantastic, considering that the tuition at most private medical schools (resident) is $30,748 vs. $6,550 at BCM. Of course, that's not including books and fees.

Even for out of state students, $19,659 is wonderful compared to $32,291, which is the average tuition for non-resident private medical school students.

I hope that helped. Med School is still 4 years from now, so prices will go up.

yea. i understand its pretty selective. but im going to Rice for undergrad, and if i could just walk across the street and pay a cheaper price, that would be awesome.
