BB&B vs IKEA

which is better to shop at for dorm outfitting and why?

Ikea is cheaper but Bed Bath and Beyond has a bigger collection of things tailored for dorms whereas Ikea contains more “home/apartment” items.

I think Target is better than both. They have some pretty cool dorm supplies there.

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday for dorm shopping and they had virtually everything I needed…plus more. I also had some coupons so in the end I really didn’t end up paying all that much.

Target is also good though, like the person above me said. Don’t know too much about Ikea.

As a previous poster said, I think that Ikea would be better for outfitting an off-campus apartment. For a dorm room, I would go with Wal Mart, Target or BB& B.

Go to BB&B, Ikea charges for shopping bags and yes, I’m too cheap to pay 15 cents for a bag.

I’d say Ikea. I think they’re far cheaper than BB&B. Target is good also.

Also the fact that they charge for bags is good, they want to encourage people to use reusable shopping bags and I don’t see how thats bad. And as far as I last heard, money from the bags gets donated to environmental causes.

Haha, me too. I just carry everything out or stuff it in my purse. I have a bunch of those reusable bags they sell but I always forget to bring them with me when I go there.
I think their reasoning is that it keeps their prices cheap, like how they have everything that warehouse set up and you have to get what you want yourself is also supposed to keep it cheap.

IKEA has some really cheap stuff that you can use for your dorm room. I bought my desk for 100 dollars and its been the absolute best for 5 years now. I would definitely shop there again - if I didn’t live an hour away from the nearest one =(.

BB+B seems to have high quality stuff. I would definitely get the “dorm in the bags” if you are just lazy.

So its really quality vs. quantity

I bought my PINK computer desk for $20 from Ikea :D. Sometimes you can find really awesome sales/deals…

Do not go to IKEA if you don’t want to assemble your own furniture.

Bed Bath & Beyond and Target are the best places to purchase dorm/apartment living items.

I love Target for dorm stuff. I bought all my kitchen stuff there last year for about $150.

i went to ikea to get my comfortor and duvet cover because although bbb had cuter comfortor styles, if i went to ikea i could buy a thick, warm good quality comfortor for ithaca weather and choose a duvet cover for less than a bed set at bbb, where the thickness of the comforters may not be good enough. duvets are also easier to clean/switch up  so the next 4 years i can buy a duvet cover for another $15 at ikea instead of buying a new $200 bed set.

i like it better that ikea is more apt style because i dont want teen-looking, college-y decor. bleh.

but thats pretty much the only thing i went to ikea for. i probably should have bought my towels there though…i got mine at target, as well as my duffel bag and sheets. i got my shower tote at BBB and thats it.

i really dont need to buy a lot of stuff for college though so idk.

this was probably really unhelpful.

oh hisgracefills me, you SO should have gone to ikea for kitchen stuff. they have everything imaginable for the kitchen and its REALLY CHEAP.

^Yes, but the Ikea around here sells cheap stuff because it’s poorly made. I love target because I know it’s good quality stuff…I haven’t had a single problem with the products I bought there a year ago.

Ikea is one of my favorite stores. Ever. We always go there when we visit my grandparents in Minnesota (the home of Ikea which shouldn’t be surprising since it’s a Swedish company).

BUT…For dorm stuff, BB&B or Target beat it out. Cheap stuff, better variety.

All of my furniture comes from IKEA. They have some pretty nice things, even if you have to mount your own furniture. It’s definitely not made for moving though…

I don’t think there are any BB&B in Canada though.

Where is Target?

I got all my dorm stuff first year from Target and BBB but this year (apartment) I got everything from Ikea. It depends, if you find stuff you like on the website, go to that store. I wouldn’t just blindly run into a place a buy everything. Shop around.

I like stuff at Target. When I get to college, I’ll probably buy most stuff from there.

Man, I remember subletting in a house and the guys that lived there had stuff from Ikea in the kitchen. The pots and pans were ultra thin, the knives couldn’t cut anything, and their silverware was lower quality than what you get at the campus dining halls.
