bed situation?

so i was wondering -- is bunking optional? can you get to your dorm and judge for yourself whether or not to stack your beds, or do you show up and discover that your bed is pre-bunked for you?

...i live in terror of bunk beds

You can unbunk them, but depending on the size of your room, you may or may not have space to walk around. My roommate and I unbunked our beds and we were hopping over stuff the entire year.

thank you! oh, god, i hope my roommate’s okay with unbunking…

Do you not like sleeping up top? They really aren’t that bad. Big, sturdy things - I slept on the top bunk for two quarters and never heard a creak or had it move or anything.

Some dorms will be better than others. I had the smallest double in a notoriously small-room dorm (CRC) and my roomie and I found a way to comfortably unbunk the beds…but everything had to stay very clean, otherwise moving was no fun whatsoever.

No, it’s just the idea of sharing a bed structure with someone that creeps me out a little bit. I don’t know. I’m weird. And then there’s the potential that my roommate might have an, um, overnight guest, and that’s just awkward…

I’m actually hoping to live in CRC, and I know the rooms are tiny, so I’m worried that it might not be practical to unbunk. But if you found a way to do it comfortably, maybe we will too!

Ohh! Well, if you’re in a room that isn’t the smallest, it’s easier - if you’re willing to put your cabinets in your closet, it’s almost comfortable. =P If you end up in CRC (which would be very exciting!) there will be an FB group and we’ll inundate you with way too many answers to questions like this you might ask!

Oh, sweet, that’s awesome. Thanks! :D
