what kind of beds are in the dorms?

are they bunk beds or separate ones?

It depends. All of the ones in pierce that I've seen are separate beds, but I believe i saw some bunk beds in snell... Not 100% sure though.

Most come separate and stackable. But yes, there are some pre-bunked which you can (probably) take apart.

I (rising HS senior) was at a U of C summer program and lived in Max Palevsky. That dorm is downright awesome - almost new, separate beds, suites w/ individual bathrooms, etc.

kx26-- happy to see somebody using "Max P," and "awesome" in the same sentence. Most students love to hate on it, but I think they either a) appreciate it and like to hate it anyway, or b) are searching for something to complain about.

I haven't lived there, but I've been inside many times and think it's a great dorm.

Can beds be lofted or bunked? It would greatly help the lack of space in Pierce, but from what I've seen, it seems like all the beds there are pretty much stuck to the floor.

Pierce beds are fixed-- though Pierce seems small, there's a surprising amount of storage space.

Pierce is a fantastic place, though its physical plant is not one of the reasons why.

Yea, don't think you can loft or bunk them, but you can buy those bed-lifters that you put on the feet of the bed to raise it an extra few inches to get another container or something under it. I had plenty of space, and I can't recall anyone having trouble storing everything they needed to.

The beds in max can be lofted and bunked however you want them to be, I don't know about the other dorms though.

what about the beds in Hitchcock?

In my friend's room in Hitch the beds were bunked.

can they be taken apart?

Not in the rooms I've seen.
