For those who currently attend UGA or who were recently admitted. How is the atmosphere for being an African American? I know the statistics show 70% white and only 6% black but are those statistics necessarily a determining factor throughout the campus?
If you’re talking racism, then I suppose it’ll depend on who exactly you hang out with. There will be racism on any campus, in any university. It just differs on how it manifests itself.
As a minority student here, I love it. I haven’t personally experienced or noticed racism on campus, and UGA is also fairly liberal for being in the South. Yes, the campus is predominantly white, but students are generally accepting and open minded.
I cannot speak about the African-American experience at UGA (as I am not black myself). However, I can refer you to the UGA subreddit if you wish to ask the same question to a larger UGA community.
Good luck.
