So i heard a buncha conversations here and there about how UCs only bump up your gpa for 8 semesters of AP classes. Is this true?
Thanks

Can you explain more clearly?

Yes, you only get the weighted bonus for up to eight honors classes.

I think he's referring to your UC GPA in high school in which the UCs only count up to 8 AP classes towards your UC GPA.

so is it eight total honors points that can be added (that would be clearer than saying "class") ?

They use 10th grade and 11th grade to count GPA, right?
So the maximum GPA one can get if he takes 6 classes each of those two years:((85)+(144))/22=4.(36).
Taking more classes than 6 only dilute the bonus points, even if those are APs(if it is true that they only count 8)
Dont you guys think 4.3636 is a little low to be maximum UC GPA?

i'm just asking... b/c i'm thinking a class = two semesters, therefore two points

8 AP classes (two-three posts up suggested), would then be +16 maximum honors points...

Yes, two points when it comes to semesters,
No, actually, it should be even lower than 4.36, I miscalculated.
So 6 classes--->12 classes 2 years--->24 semesters
8 semesters(4 classes) counted for AP,As---> 85
16 is normal,As--->164
--->Max GPA= (85+164):14=4.33

(Or just number of AP classes is half of the normal classes, so the GPA Max cut is the first third of (4,5)--->4.33)

Too low ?

actually my college counsellor said they say that but they actually count all of them. she's friends with pple on the regents board and absolutely the most pessimistic person in the world so i think she's tellin the truth

poster above: you may think she is telling the truth, BUT it clearly states in the UC bulletin for 2006-2007 that there is a limit (within the standards of admissions' pages and the evaluation pages)

so it's 8 full-year-courses, not just 8 semesters (4 AP classes), right?

nope it's 8 semesters, so 4 AP classes

Oops, instead of 14, should be 24. But I get the result right anyway
