Hey guys, Im transferring to cal this fall too. I am from Orange County California and I am a physics major.

Apart from location, is there a difference between unit 1 and unit 2?

azumzz - not really from what i can tell.

datransfer - i think foothill is one of the less popular ones just cuz a. it’s so out of the way from the main scene and b. its pretty quiet. but if quiet is what you’re looking for then i say you put it as your first.
i think for channing-bowditch you have to be willing to have a 12 month lease.

@redo: Do you think it would be smart to put:

and maybe:
3. Wada (double)
4. Clark Kerr (triple suite-style)

Or am I reducing my chances of getting into my choices by picking foothill twice?
I know that foothill is THE most expensive though. I’m hoping not many people are willing to spend that much (~$14,000-$17,500) on housing and don’t list it as one of their choices.

Do freshmen have priority when it comes to housing? I know that their deadline to apply for housing is a month earlier than ours…

yeah, freshmen do have priority. but i dont see why you think that you’d be reducing your chances at all. if anything, you’d be maximizing them for foothill wouldnt you? i think you have a solid list set up there.

Is there any other way to see better pictures or videos of the rooms? The Cal Housing website isn’t really helpful. Just wanted to make sure I pick the right ones for me when I do the app.

i think the best way would be to visit and see for yourself. but…maybe google them? lol

lol I tried that. D: I was going to see my friend’s dorm but it didn’t happen in time. Apparently, housing tours are also done for the semester… OH well.

okay i’ve once again switched up my housing prefs:

Wada d <===realllllyyy want this now. emil’s glowing review is a big part of it and so is the fact that I’m renting a private parking spot right down the street!

Clark Kerr d in s

Unit 3 d

Clark Kerr d

any

if any of you guys have an idea of what your prefs are yet, post em up!

@redo: How did you get the private parking spot? I want one too!

wait what do you mean? like how I found it? lol PM if you want to know where the spot is/how you can rent!

berkeley parking is an outrageous rip and completelllyyyyyyy confusing.

Financial Aid will cover some part of it. When you switch your package from “on-campus” to “off-campus” the average decrease in cost will be around $4000. But you should contact financial aid to get a detailed answer regarding your package. Since everyone’s package is pretty unique to them.

There are not any specifically designated transfer locations at Clark Kerr or Unit 3. The only transfer locations are Wada, Channing-Bowditch, and Towle. We do house Transfers in all of the other locations, but these ones are SPECIFICALLY transfer/upper division spaces. Towle (Unit2 mini-suites) has a meal plan.

Wada is for undergraduates only. Graduate students live in Manville and Ida Jackson Graduate Housing.

Unit 2 consists of Wada, standard rooms and mini-suites. Standard rooms and mini-suite spaces have meal plans included. Wada does not which is why it is cheaper.

On your application you will have 5 preferences. You will be selecting room types and locations. Unit 2 APT- Double (Wada Double), Unit 2-Triple Mini-Suite, CKC- Double Suite. Etc. The more competitive locations (upper div spaces) will be harder to get into. If you list CKC as a first preference it’s likely you’ll get that. It really depends on your lottery number.

Channing Bowditch/Wada
Singles any where
Unit 2 mini-suites
The Units (1, 2, 3)
Clark Kerr Campus/Foothill

The Units were all built around the same time and are pretty identical besides the mini suite building, those are newer

woah thanks CalAlumna!

Just wondering what will happen to the financial aid if you choose off campus housing instead on campus? Is a financial aid will be reduced? Thanks

see post #31

I am pretty sure I am going to find an apartment with my girlfriend. I want to be as close to campus as possible.

Is it worth paying the $20 for CAL Rentals?
